My favourite fighter he took the hard road to glory. Nothing given to him from the Philly wars,to drawing with Vito to beating Minter in my hometown London. Fantastic fighter for me as a kid listening to him beat Hearns on the radio as it wasn't live on tv in the UK epic.
UK had Hearns - Hagler on closed circuit as with Hearns - Duran in colour on the big cinema screen. Both were later shown on delay on ITV.
like who? Hamsho was granted a rematch and wasnt Hamsho the best of the bunch? at least one of them. Fully Obel I believe wouldve knocked out Mugabi but caught Marvin during his prime. As a result, he fell early Sibson was on his way to a rematch but then fell to Don Lee, in a fight he was over his head in. Sibson a 5-8 middleweight vs a 6-2 middleweight. he had things going his way until Lee switched stances. Too bad Hearns is the only one I can think of who didnt get the rematch but Hagler was at the end of his career and I can honestly say that since he never fought again (unlike Leonard who was only playing the public) so hagler took the bigger money fight with Leonard so In reality, he never avoided anyone
there was Sibson but Hagler being at his peak, wasnt about to Lett Sibbo get close enough to do body work as he was consistenly met with jabs to the face, Hagler working effectively from long range There was Roldan who actually did land often and hard but still failed you add Mugabi and maybe Hearns but like Sibbo, didnt get the chance to pick Hagler apart with body punches. I remember he (Tommy) said that was his plan, to land the left to the body and the right to Hagler's head. unfortunately, that too failed to work
