Maskaev last fought in Dec. 2006. Peter last fought in Jan. 2007.

This strikes me as one of the biggest periods of activity in a heavyweight title fight in that both the challenger and the defending champ are flirting with nearly a year off. Weird, no? Or correct me?

Well, I don't know about BOTH being inactive, but I know that in the old days there were times when champs sat on the title - like when Braddock was inactive for like two years before fighting Joe Louis. Of course, Louis wasn't inactive, and we all know how that one turned out.

It doesn't matter at all in the final analysis. Maskaev is going to get blasted out whether he fought last night or last year:yep

Not only is the inactivity bad for the fighters (especially Oleg, IMO) but it is also bad for the division. They should have fought sometime in April or May and the winner could be having their next fight in October. Politics strikes again.

    :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

That's what I emphasize, but believe me, it's not ALL I look at when making my calls.

This fight, however, is a CLASSIC case where exactly that logic plays out. I might add that Peter's punching power is also a factor here too.

Peter is gonna blow Oleg out within five. You'll see.:hey

Inactivity is worse for Peter because he will probably come in fat, Maskaev always comes in shape.

As a Peter fan, I admit to not appreciating the timeoff. Fear is a great motivator and I wouldn't doubt if OLEG fears Peter, and may be training extremely hard as a result.

...however I don't exactly expect Peter to sit on his ass until October.

    ...Peter KO Maskaev.

As I recall Braddock was inactive due to the politics of boxing and the wrangling between Louis and Schmeling. Max Baer, on the other hand, was too busy chasing women to be bothered training for a fight.

He better blow him out in 5 rounds because by the 6th Peter is usually exhausted. If Maskaev is clever he will take this into account when going into the fight. The question is can Maskaev out box Peter for 12 rounds? :huh

Was not the Wlad-Peter the CLASSIC case? This one is just similar.

HE was not completely inactive - he participated in exhibition fights. One may argue that recent fight by W. Klitchko had been of a similar level of challenge.
