No way in hell he beats prime Vargas, Vargas would eat him alive in my opinion and I'm a huge Mayorga fan and don't really fancy Vargas that much.

 

Call me crazy, but I pick Mayorga over a prime Vargas as well. Vargas would surely find some way to be stopped.

 

Mosley is going to hurt Mayorga very badly, but it will be exciting for the 5-7 rds it lasts.

Noone looks at Mayorga as a world beater...just a very entertaining fighter with the ability to be a problem for anybody.

He's kind of a guilty pleasure..similar to Edison Miranda or a Edwin Valero.

I think Mayo was one of those great or good fighter's BUT in one weight class(147)But he move all the way up to 160 and took a BEATING that this guy was not the same.

 

Totally agree there, that fight ruined him.

 

I don't understand how he's overrated, I've never heard anyone rate him highly. Mayorga is one of those guys that is very good but gets beaten by all of the A-Class fighters, he's a perfect gatekeeper and set up guy for big fighters just like Vargas was. He's powerful, awkward and must be near impossible to train for, so he can give litterally any fighter big problems. Also he has those big wins over Forrest and the fight with Spinks would have been been a draw had he not had points deducted. So no, he is not overrated because I've never seen anyone praising him in any way, and honestly he has a decent enough resume and wil even give Shane problems before ultimately being dismantled.

Yeah, totally overrated. Look at all the people who call him something he isn't, comparing his jab to prime Quartey's and his movement to prime Whitaker's. :think
