I agree. But it was essentially the same sort of injury.

Vitali couldn't box on, as he relies on both arms. He needs to be active with both, to keep guys at the distance he wants.

Floyd could survive as he's just fundamentally a different fighter.

He can go 12 rounds, winning with the occasional shot

man this is a helleva toss up. floyd could bang at the lower weights and was more agressive but people are forgetting that duran carried power up all the way to 160. if floyd can hold him off i see a twelve round ud. if its a 15 rounder i dnt see how anybody in history can keep duran off that long at that weight. oh and for the guy that brought up mosley. k o. suran

What does Manny have to do with this thread? I don't like calling people "*******s" but you're close to being one

People often cite Duran as an all out brawl type of fighter, but he had solid head movement and was very skilled to make an opponent miss. Durans footspeed is also very very underrated.

I think Duran would simply outwork Mayweather and force him to fight on the inside. Mayweathers offensive tools which enables him to fight on the outside (lead left, jab to the body) will only work on Duran for a certain amount of time before Duran will be able to adjust to Mayweather, which is also a role reversal because it is usually Mayweather ad******g to his opponents.

I pick Duran on a close UD decision

Interesting, head to head I take Oscar to beat Mayweather at lightweight, however I think he would have a better chance of beating Duran than Oscar would.

Whatever the outcome in the first, Mayweather would improve in a second fight.

I've seen quite a few of your post regarding Floyd. Your sarcasm is meek to disguise your dislike for the man. It's alright to admit it, now move on..

i never hide it and was actually using it to emphasize how floyd could have fought better opposition if he just choose to. now if you are not too sensitive about floyd, you would let it pass and say the same that floyd could have a better resume and greater standing now. i just find it a little funny that you used some statistical terms where he would fight duran 10 times when we are requesting him to fight the guy, who currently resembles duran's greatness, for even just once.

i did not even object on how you think floyd would win 70% of the time when a lesser guy in castillo gave him all he can handle at the weight.

We obviously know the Castillo fight was close, but the rematch was made shortly after.. And WE all know what happen then.

I say 7/10 Floyd takes it base on skill, defense, adaptation and ring generalship

Sorry gooners, but you're way off on this one which is unusual:yep

There was nothing impatiant about the way Duran fought at his 135 peak:bart

Just go watch the DeJesus III master class at Duran's apogee at the weight & juxtaposed with an instinctive defensive gift that rarely saw Duran get tagged clean. He could adjust to any style & slip from defence into attack in a heartbeat & his feinting skills were sublime & what has Mayweather got than could keep someone of the calibre of Duran honest...ZIP.

Duran for me would suffocate Mayweather with his usual precision violence, there would'nt be a seconds rest for Mayweather. Duran's a master at what he did & he never walked straight into an opponant in a straight line. He's feint or draw the lead then slip under throw the right hand or adjust his feet to put in the double tap of "left body, left head, right cross. Floyd's movement to his right to avoid durans righthand would put his chin straight into the execution zone of Duran's left hook & thats the left hook that sent Lampkin to Hospital & Leonard into break dance mode in round 2 in Montreal.

At 135 regardless of Floyds superb ring generalship when matched with his opponants to date he's never had to face the compleate package of someone of the calibre of Duran. Roberto's boxing skills are always overlooked in favour of the animal assaults he'd put on opponants, but as the great Angelo Dundee said "DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THIS GUY!!! HE'S CUTE!! in relation to Duran's defensive abililities & juxtapose that with the pychotic aggression it made for the compleate 135Lb champion of the modern era.

You've only got to see the distress on Leonards face in montreal in some of thos rounds as he was hounded around the ring & to quote leonard, "His speed of counter & foot really shocked me & his ability to cut down my lateral movement gave me no choice but too fight him off me which is exactly what he wanted"

I don't see what the Laing's/Batten's or Benitez have in a bearing on fighting a style like mayweather. Duran was in hie boooze stage 30's & what are known as his wilderness years & when Teddy Brenner who was Top Ranks matchmaker said to Bob Arum that Duran needs a challange to motivate him & that when ther offered Duran the Cuevas illiminator for the Davey Moore fight. He destroyed both as we know & then went up to challenge the superbeast Mavelous marvin for the 160 crown & outfoxed Marvin for most of the fight & that is the fight where you see the true defensive & tactical nous of Duran in being able to dictate the pattern of the fight against ab champion who was avoided like the plaque by Leonard & Hearns who did'nt want to be within 100 miles of the Marvelous one.

Within 1 year or so of the Laing debacle, Roberto Duran destroyed Pipino Cuevas...Brutalised Davey Moore...& gave the undisputed Middleweight King absolute FITS!!! & if it had been over 12 rounds then Duran would have won & been the 1st fighter to ever have won 4 genuine world crowns at different weights & considering he was the undisputed 135 king just 4 years previous.

I can honestly say that to give Mayweather a chance against Duran is wishful thinking on a drug induced level IMHO. I just can't see what he has to overcome or avoid the tsunami of violence thats going to drown him in pain & it would be non-stop. In the pocket/mid range/ offence of countering then Duran holds all 4 aces & he's never encountered someone like Duran who can come at him with angles & has the speed to apply intelligent offence juxtaposed with defence.

There is one out there at the moment who could apply these traits in the ring if they's fought at 135/140/147 & thats Manny Pacquiao & after watching the Mayweather/Hatton fight again last night then if thats anything to go by then Mayweather's got a big time problem.

But what Duran do you want!! The 74 DeJesus II or the PATIENT 78 DeJesus III Duran or a combo of both with a bit of Ray Lampkin thrown in!!

As thats what Floyd Mayweather would be up against & that 135 Duran is going to smash the life out of Mayweather & overwhelm him & outbox him just like he did to Leonard in Montreal & stop him around the championship rounds of 11 onwards. It's all on you-tube for even the most blind of juries to render a verdict of DEATH at the hands of the one & only true "HIGH PRIEST OF VIOLENCE" & thats Roberto DURAN:deal:D

Floyd will have his moments just like DeJesus did but it'll all end in pain & go the way the rest of them went. Run & hope to survive or stand & get destroyed by these:deal

He wasn't 21. He was born in 77. The Castillo fight happened in 03.

Duran can Box with the best of em if you hold your feet against him, but he is too impatient when you draw him out of center ring, and that is where Floyd would win the fight imo.

Before you posted this, I went and watched a couple of early rounds of Leonard/Duran, to get an idea of why Leonard apparently "fought Duran's fight", a few things I noticed, Duran offset Leonard from getting off first, he made him reluctant to lead off because he was using head feints, and feinting with his gloves, trying to entice Leonard to lead off so he could counter, and Leonard became reluctant to lead off because of this, he wasn't 100% sure he was gonna land, and so was either waiting too long to get off, or was getting countered, however Mayweather wouldn't hold his feet against Duran imo, he wouldn't fight flat footed, he would fight on the balls off his feet, and he wouldn't lead off and allow Duran to set him up for a counter, Mayweather would go into second phase, as that is what he does when he doesn't see that perfect opportunity to get off first on you.

Mayweather had the same kind of issues with Castillo when they were in center ring, as what Duran was giving Leonard, as in Castillo was using head and shoulder feints to offset him from getting off first on him, and because Castillo wasn't leading, and because of Mayweather's cautious nature, instead of leading off, Mayweather would take it to second phase, to the ropes, where by he could to reset you with the movement, and attack you off the angles his movement creates, and that is where I think Duran would lose the fight, Castillo stayed patient, even when on the front foot, he stalked Mayweather and pressed when he saw Mayweather was in vulnerable spots, Duran is too impatient when you draw him out of the center of the ring, he's too much of animal, so much so that he just wants to put it on you, but when someone uses lots of movement on you, that idea is, to cut the ring down gradually, not faster.
