How would Meldrick Taylor do today at 140 and 147? You can use both pre and post Chavez Taylor for 140. Opinions?
At 140, he beats everyone. At 147, he would probably beat everyone besides Floyd & Pac. But I doubt it would last long. He was suffering the effects of the punishment taken in the brutal Chavez fight as well as probably a lot of Philly gym wars. He was a modest punching WW prone to brawling, so he would eventually go downwhill in a rather short period of time.
Hmmm an exceptional boxer who's biggest downfall was that he loved to fight. Took shots he did not need to. I beleive he has the right style to cause Floyd a lot of problems, would have been an interesting contest.
Taylor was faster than anyone at 140 his punches would land before Floyds or Mannys he was a strong 140lber too. He would probably get robbed, but he'd definitely be able to beat either Floyd or Manny.
A prime and fresh Taylor would have a great chance of outworking Floyd, because Floyd is more of a sharpshooter than a volume puncher. Against Manny, he would probably be slightly ahead on points when running out of gaz around the tenth and getting kod or losing a close 12 rd decision.
Just a question by why does every champ from times past beat modern fighters in many peoples views ??????
We're talking primes here. A prime Mosley or Duran or Paul Williams would most probably beat a lot of champions today.
He would give Duckweather the Buddy McGirt treatment but this would never happen cause Duckweather would never step in the Ring with Taylor.
There's a reason why Taylor had been mentioned over a fighter like Greg haugen or vinny paz. Yesterdays greats are greats for a reason and had the intangibles to make for good "what if" fights with present fighters. Like I said he was faster than Floyd and had a work rate that could get him a decision. Same reason a fighter like Kahn would give Floyd trouble except Kahn isn't as fast
Not every fighter. But damn sure Meldrick Taylor. The Danny Garcia's, and Provodnikov's of the world are simply not up to par with Taylor.
Khan would not give Floyd trouble, at least not for more than a round or 2. Khan has about 1% of the ring smarts and technical skills of Mayweather. Taylor on the other hand, would trouble Floyd, although I don't think he wins.
