In the wake of Ortiz folding under pressure again (my boys is saying he may have gave up again but will watch the fight after I get off work) please name some mentally weak champions (the rules is simple the fight must have won a major title at some point in they career) Here are some off the top of my head Ortiz Cintron McCall If I think of more will be sure to add
I wouldn't say he is mentally weak...but Broner get discouraged when **** hits the fan. See how many people he needs for mental support not just when entering the ring but also in his training camps.
Thats a fair enough point he did seem like a deer in the headlights when Maidana wouldn't stop punching
McCall is perhaps more emotive than is considered manly in our culture, but I don't know that "mentally weak" applies to him, the way it does Cintron and Ortiz. Think of all the bombs the man has stood up to in his career. Yes, physically his chin is to be credited with him staying upright - but he also withstood them and stayed determined to win. Neither of those welterweight clowns ever took a tenth as much punishment as he did without looking for an exit. I mean, if you're holding Lewis II against him, that is a bit harsh. That is one night and it was clear there were some chemical imbalances or something going on with him. That can not be categorized alongside the repeated instances of cowardice displayed by Ortiz and Cintron.
Ortiz is the classic modern example although the injury suffered against Lopez was legit. Judah is another one that springs to mind. Alot of people may disagree with me but I'd say Bowe. The dude was capable of so much but was never capable of delivering due to his mentality.
