I remember he was quite highly touted and showed flashes of skill he was only 18ish at the time but also was seen arguing with Booth in the corner between rounds and after fights. I think I remember seeing an article seeing that he had decided to take a brea but I wouldn't be surprised if it was problems outside the ring that caused this
He boxed my mate as a Am. He's not dedicated. Walks around his estate with a *** in mouth and likes a drink. He naturally talented but hasn't understood that if he wants to be a top fighter he has to sacrifice smoking and drinking and fast food. He also doesn't like being told the truth from looks of that interview that night.
Remember seeing him on BBC in a 'UK vs USA' amateur thing, he was only a kid and looked class with a real pro style. His attitude and performance in his last fight pretty much prompted Booth to say there and then he was done, a shame, if he'd developed as Groves has and remained dedicated, fights with Frampton and Quigg would probably have us talking right now.
Frustrating obvious a great talent but the type of person that will never get to the top for the aforementioned reasons. Its a shame because there are people that train all day and all night but wont be as naturally talented as him.
i remember him appearing on ringside with groves, and i couldnt understand a word he said he did look a decent talent in his first couple of fights though
the biggest waste I've seen since I've followed boxing. He was ridiculously talented, but I remember rumors from his am days that he smoked, drank etc. Theres also been stories of fighting in night clubs etc. I think he got away with alot as an am, with the shorter rounds etc, but as a pro was finding it tougher. The Ancliffe fight highlighted his strenghts and weakness'. As Booth likes to preach, he is a realist. And expects everybody in their fold to be able to hear the truth. I don't think that suited Mr Maguire
maguire was class i sparred him in the hayemaker camp and he had every shot in the book and could really punch for his weight he just lacked any work ethic a real waste of talent last i heard he had got in trouble for fighting in a nightclub in peterborough
He smashed Seamus Macklin in the ams and had all the moves to go along with natural power. Shame he doesn't have the dedication to make it as a pro.
