Hunter has some serious talent but he is a boy in with men. He lacks the polish to get results in the am's, either he has to really work on that or maybe start shifting his style to something that works better for the pros.
Deontay is a 6'7, 201 pound boxer from Louisiana. He's a boxer, and he's improving vastly with his training with the Olympic Team, as he only has like 25 fights. He's also apparently ridiculously powerful.
I think it's two tickets left to compete about, so if Hunter gets to the final, he's quailified. His biggest threats are probably canadian Didier Bence, venezuelan Jose Payares and colombian Oscar Rivas (who Hunter beat in the 1st qualifier). Hunter should be the best of the super heavies in the 2nd qualifier, so I would be very surprised if he doesn't qualifies for the Olympics. http://boxning.blogspot.com/
Just read that Hunter beat canadian Didier Bence in the quarterfinal, so now its only the semifinal with Jose Payares between Hunter and the ticket to the Olympics.
Is this the same Michael Hunter that lost to the humorously named 11-fight novice Tyson Fury in a England v USA a year or so ago?
He is a tall rangy fighter with a very powerful right hand. He has adequate speed but is also very sloppy at times.
Yeah that probably would be him. Did he only have 11 fights? That seems funny as his Dad was a pro boxer wasnt he? I think Fury is yet to break into the senior competition yet. Pretty sure David Price beat him after that. I was searching through some international junior results the other day (looking for aussie fighters results) and Im sure I read he is the no3 ranked junior in the world, which is pretty impressive. Both are young guys still. Hunter has come a long way, he is the real deal but as I said before he is a boy in with men. I dont see even medaling at the games, thats if he makes it in.
He'll make it in, he had a really tough draw against Bence but having won that I think he'll win and qualify for the Olympics. And I think he'll surprise people in Beijing, depending on the draw.
With how much he sucks? Seriously, If this guy wasn't American no one wouldn't talk about him and you know it. There are dozens of guys on that skill level and a lot who are significantly better.
