That is the true feed to some morons, they screem and cheer like idiots for the new unbeaten and untested prospects and after they lose they call them bums and journeman. If Haye lose to Maskauev they will call him a joke and bum also. Not everybody is going to be next Tyson or Lennox, but bums doesn't reach top 10 ranking position in any point of their careers. Mollo will come back as he came back from TOS and he certainly lose again some day as every other boxer (with only one exception of RM).
I wonder if Mollo would be a good Cruiserweight. He seems as if he can make 200 pounds. Maybe he should fight Haye!
I think he's strong enough to remain a heavyweight. I think he will pose problems to any fighter who is not mobile enough to avoid his punches or does not cover up very well. On the down side, Mollo fades after 5 rounds and his stamina issues were really exposed against Golota.
He'll have to hurry, Michael Grant is fighting him on Friday. Mollo's a young guy, I'm sure he'll fight on. But he did take a bit of a pounding from Golota, not great for the confidence factor so he's probably having a bit of a rest-up.
His stamina is OK I think, he just wasn't as conditioned as Golota. He gave everything he had in that fight and it really wore him down... just wasn't enough to beat the old man.
I think that Golota was highly responsible for Mollos fading. In a few early rounds Mollo got severe beating and he spent a lot of energy in the first round trying to unsucessfully unload on Golota. It was full action fight from the beginning with Golota covering early and forcing the tempo after the first round. I thing that most boxers would have stamina issues in that day against Golota. The imporatnt think is Mollo was able to hold his own to the end and simply refused to fall down.
mollo's no bum. solid fighter in a weak era who is somewhat undersized for hw and without those extra special skills or speed to compensate.
I heard a rumor a few weeks ago that they were thinking about making a Shannon Briggs-Mike Mollo fight.
That's interesting, may I ask where you heard this from? Both have gone a year without a fight, this could be a good fight.
I can see it now... Mollo's punches bouncing off and Briggs throwing 2 punches per round. If Mollo doesn't get caught by a bomb he should win it.
King will pull off another upset. He has a heck of a streak going right now. Demetrice King can't box for ****, but he can sure unload a huge punch. Almost all of his wins were late come from behind knockouts where he was being dominated before knocking out his opponent cold. Considering Michael Grant's history, I'd say he's a pretty good candidate for getting beaten as well. Back to Mike Mollo, he's probably not quick enough to fight at cruiserweight. At least as an exciting heavyweight, he can be a draw. Sure, he'll probably never be much more than a good gatekeeper, but he's a fun fighter, is a decent draw, and more than earns his paycheck by getting beaten around for our entertainment. Certainly more than a bum. A bum is a fighter who just lays down at the first sign of adversity in the ring. Mollo leaves every last ounce of himself in the ring, he's just not that talented.
Actually, I do think King should be considered a live underdog for the fight with Grant, too. King's lost 15 but Shannon is the only guy to stop him, and considering he's had no amatuer fights King has had to 'learn on the job'. He's young, and he's developing a drive to win with five wins in a row...seems to have a good punch too. Grant will need to be careful. Hmm, now I'm thinking Mollo vs King would be good!
There are a lot of 80s and 90s heavyweights still kicking around! Grant, Rahman, Mercer, Akinwande, Seldon, Morrison, Moorer, Golota, McCall, Tua, Botha, Holyfield, Briggs, Donald...all fought within the last year. Hell, Tony Tubbs fought in November '06 (and won).
