Everyone's body is different. You don't need to worry about weights for boxing until you are fairly experienced. Just get in boxing shape, eat right and see where you comfortably end up.

..............I agree with Amy, it's all relative; timing a mile is a fun thing, but not necessarily an indicator of real fitness.

My hunch is that as you continue to train and lose those extra few pounds you refer to, you'll see that time dip. Keep at it.

We used to have to do a mile and a half in the army with 1/2 mile warm up, I believe my fastest was 8.09, that was a good 2/3 years ago though.

As said above though just concentrate on getting fit and eating right and just try to stay motivated by mixing it up a bit, you don't want to get bored with it.

I did sports relief mile a few years ago in 6 min 11 secs, thought I was doing pretty good until a 14 year old stormed pass me. Not sure what I could do it in now but am 7lbs lighter so I suspect it would be a little faster.

thats a very good time compared to what I do - I'm guessing your run is all on a flat surface in the army test is it?

We did it on various bases, but the one where i got that time was pretty flat yea, just with the odd incline/decline here and there.

In different camps it's different courses so your time tends to change.

I remember one of the 264(SAS signal squadron)) lad's doing it in around 6 and a half minutes, now that's just a sick time.

You'd be a very small heavy at 5'8". Then again, Qawi fought up to heavy, and was a very good light-heavy/cruiser at just 5'5.
