Monzon batters and shuts down Benn over 10 rounds and stops him in 13.

WAY earlier than that.Tough but overrated Benn was stopped in what,7(?) by inferior to Monzon Mike Watson(who was stopped himself by McCallum in his very next fight).Carlos wears him down and knocks him out in about 5 or 6.

I wouldn't be surprised if Monzon brought the axe down well before that actually, and I'm quite a fan of Benn's.

Do me a favour! Monzon within 5 rounds max, and i like Benn who is , IMO, one of the most dangerous fighters with his back to the ropes, that ive seen in long time

I think this one look a lot like Watson-Benn. I think that Nigel would give a good account of himself, but he has too much to do here: get past a great offence, a long reach and work well inside against a horrifically strong opponent. Monzon wouldn't be able to blast Benn out and would probably be cautious in the early stages, but his long jab and thudding punches would break down Benn.

    Monzon by mid-rounds stoppage.

Yea like the inferior to Monzon Carter blasted Griffith out in a round, so Monzon must knock him out in 30seconds, right? :nut Styles make fights and Monzon isn't a massive puncher, that is also was a very green Benn and the KO was blinded by a thumb if I remember rightly

I don't think Monzon fought anyone with the ferocity, speed, power, intensity and combinations of Benn. For the first 6 rounds Benn would pressure and his speed and quick feet would see him land. Monzon's defense isn't as slick as Watsons so he'll get hit more and he may even put Monzon down. Monzon's jab, defense and work ethic are key to his success here. Benn was susceptable to good jabs. As the fight goes on Benn's pace slows and Monzon's more well paced/relaxed/efficent output starts to see him tee off on Benn for a late KO maybe around the 10th. A very hard fight for Monzon though and he'd come out of the fight with more injuries than he'd ever had in his other battles

Benn wasn't really prime at 160 though, too green, much improved at 168

The poor man's Larry Holmes might just do enough to get the nod.

I see this as a repeat of Monzon's affairs with Briscoe and Valdez. Benn is a hard puncher and would bring lots of pressure, but ultimately can't get past Monzon's "trombone", so to speak. Nigel wouldn't be able to sustain his attack consistently enough, as he is constantly eating Monzon's jab or getting wrapped up in his "tentacles". Monzon either by comfortable UD or late KO.

I liked Nigel Benn, but Monzon would have been too much for him. Carlos by mid-round stoppage.

You're actually very right here! I was using the Monzon of his last couple of fights with Valdez for my call here, whereas the 1970-'72 version of Carlos would have dropped the big right hand on Nigel much earlier like, as you say, in the 5th or 6th, and no later than the 7th round.

PowerPuncher, do you know anything about what you're talking about? Monzon proved guys like you and Itrimariti wrong all the time in the 70's.

Cobra can you even read, I picked your boy/fantasy lover. My position is this is a hard hard fight - similar to the challenge of Briscoe/Valdez but with more brutality
