Monzon vs Foster

The speed and power of Foster, vs the durability and stamina of Monzon.

 

Foster by at least TKO.

Monzon was the perfect MW, Foster was the perfect LH.

 

I think I'll go with Foster here as well.

 

I think its the wrong weight class for Monzon and the right one for Bob...Bob by stop

These two are actually very similar in my eyes- both champions whose styles were perfectly adapted for fighting within their own respective divisions, but at least in Foster's case, and I suspect Monzon's as well, not really suited for moving up to face bigger men. Against men their own size or smaller, I would make these guys favorite or even-odds against virtually anyone, but they were too stylistically dependent on that premise for such success to continue with upward movement. I believe, then, that Foster, being the ultimately-attuned light heavyweight, would beat Monzon, the ultimately-attuned middleweight, at his own game and probably stop him late.

 

Monzone would be giving away too much reach to a real heavy hitting Light Heavy.
I remember my man Dick Tiger getting slaughtered....but Monzone would have to run all night long, and I don't think he could.
Monzone would stand a better chance vs Jones than Foster.IMO

 

Though I agree it is a bad matchup for Monzon, he did have a 77-inch reach, I doubt Foster's was significantly better. Foster was just much more accostomed to the weight division.

I like these threads Mendoza, because even though it would be one of the hardest to pick in a real/p4p sense, i can just pick the guy who's weight class it is, easy!!!!! Foster wins imo!

Really though , in a p4p sense this is a headache to pick, both were too dominant, doesnt matter about styles, in their primes, pure dominance

 

I see no way that Monzon can win this Foater can out box him from a distance and outpunch him in close,the physical advantages the rangy Monzon enjoyed at 160 would be cancelled here by the 6 3 Foster ,Monzon had good power in his right but only Heavies stopped Beltin Bob.He wins a u dec or stops Monzon around the 11th.

 

Foster by stoppage late. Monzon gives away too much of his reach advantage at light-heavy and Foster hits hard and is much more accustomed to the weight.

 

What was Foster's reach?

 

I think around 78 inches, but he had "long arms" and not a broad back.

Foster's jab reached and cut Ali, so his punches would reach Monzon too.

 

So one inch beyond Monzon's reach? Certainly no fighter has overcome such a deficit!
