Too old. Bonavena has too much youth weight and strength and pounds the old mongoose into submission in 7 or 8 rounds.
Moore was very familiar with fighters from Argentina. Used to do tours there. The President of Argentina actually put up the money to Maxim to fight Archie. This would be just another Argentinian on the list when Archie was at his best.
Moore Walcott Charles all would have been in their primes in the late 30s and 40s. They didn’t have a chance because blacks could fight for the title. After WW2 the color line came down in sports including boxing all of a sudden these guys had a chance and they were the best around cause of WW2 and Korean War and a good economy there was no good young fighters yet. So all we know about them was when they were champs we can’t predict what they would have been if they had been given the chance earlier. So your stuck with the best Moore we know about which is the 40 year old one. No 40 year old puffed up light heavy is beating prime Bonavena. Get real guys.
Bonavena wasn't really any better than Valdez, Harold Johnson or Bob Baker. Certainly not Harold Johnson. All of whom were in their 20s in the mid 50s when Moore beat them. Also, Moore beat a fresher more prime version of Valdez then Liston did. Oh and Valdez was 209 p pounds at 6'3 or 6'4 when Moore beat him, bigger than Bonavena would be. Moore was also 180 pounds in their 1st fight when he dismantled Valdez in 1955. And 196 pounds in fight 2. https://boxrec.com/wiki/index.php/Archie_Moore_vs._Nino_Valdes_(1st_meeting)
Moore was at his best at age 30-36 early 50s He was 38 when he met Rocky not 40. Get your facts right
Yeah how was he in the 40 s when he was forced to go on the road cause he couldn’t get a title shot even though he was the best in the division by far. These guys weren’t special they didn’t have their primes when they were 38. It s was only because of their circumstance that it worked out that they only got the chance to be serious contenders when they were older.
Negative. Moore was at his best when he changed his style to become more defensive due to a surgery he had. This extended his career because like other older fighters (think Hopkins) was a style conducive to saving energy picking your shots and controlling the action. Archie wasn’t your average fighter most didnt fight as long as he did. Charles decline started in his early 30s he wasn’t prime at 38 neither was Walcott. Moore had all his best wins in that time frame I having beat Harold Johnson, Bivins, Maxim, Clarence Henry, Bob Satterfield, Bob Baker, Nino Valdez etc and he was far more consistent only losing 1 decision to Johnson which he avenged multiple times and a dq loss to Bacon.
When Moore won the title from Maxim he didn’t celebrate he said because he should have been champ 14 years earlier. These guys were the best around when they were older but they’re not some special beings that weren’t at their best till they were 10 15 years past the normal human peak. They just didn’t get the opportunity due to discrimination.
