Louis will be a top choice, but I feel it's Arguello as far as who was the most accurate, and the most skilled at punching.

And BTW, Marciano knew how to land the shot when he needed it. He was quite good at timing.

I would say Corbett for his time along with Tunney and Johnson as far as old time HW's go

BTW Marciano was pretty good at landing his punches when he wanted to the rest were to wear his opponents out and jst batter them around

In recent times, the only 2 highly accurate guys are Ricardo Lopez and Michalczewski.

Arguello and Louis are the main men in this area

oscar can be really accurate on form. look at the vargas, mayorga and tito fights

Tito was also very accurate when on form. see the vargas, joppy, whitaker and carr fights

To answer the title of the thread, Trinidad deserves respect and credit and respect in this area, and i believe is by far the most underrated here on ESB.

In response to your opening post, Ken Buchanan is one people might want to look at on the subject of 'knowing when to throw a punch', both of his fists seemed magnetised to openings presented by his opponents' defences.

The main guys in terms of accurate power-punching would be the likes of Louis, but Robinson also, maybe the best, people seem to not mention him because its just mentioning Robinson again. But in terms of accurate combination power-punching in a lethal manner, he may very well be top of the list.

EDIT- that's a reply to the opening post of the thread.

Alexis Arguello was not only renouned for his power, but his ability to always plant his shots on target. He had beautiful accuracy, mainly because he was surprisingly patient even when under great pressure. You can see examples of this against Pryor. Alexis is the top man in this area I believe.

Joe Louis and Jose Napoles. There are of course, many many others, but these two are tops to me.

Yes, I agree with you on Buchanan. I think Ken was a gifted boxer, but the foul ending to the Duran fight may have dispirited him somewhat, and soured him on the fight game.

Yeah, he never let go of that for years.

On the subject of Buchanan, great boxer imo.

I definitely throw in another vote for Arguello. I'm surprised Chavez hasn't been mentioned yet. Watch his surgical destruction of Rosario. The placement of the body shots, and the sneak, looping right hooks to Rosario's ear/temple on the inside. Chavez just knew where and how to hit a guy for maximum damage.

Good call, Chavez' right hand was his best shot for me, accurate it was, and when he threw it as an overhand was equally as accurate
