I'm asking for the most obscure title contenders in your memory, someone who was hardly known at the time of their title shot by even the hardcores.

There is a vast amount of historical knowledge on this board and I'm anxious to hear who you guys can pull out of the dusty cobweb filled corners of boxing history.

Here's my offering: In 1976, Elisha Obed defended his Junior Middleweight strap against someone from the Ivory Coast named Sea Robinson who was 6-1-2 at the time of the defense. Never heard of him before this fight, which seemed to almost be an exhibition of sorts, but he did last 15 rounds with a prime Obed so he must have had some stamina and talent.

Who have you got for me?

In his pro debut, Pete Rademacher challenged Floyd Patterson. He was an Olympic gold medalist, so he probably wasn't totally obscure, but he was totally undeserving of the title shot.

    Pongsaklek Wonjongkam has a few.

    Sven Ottke as well.

Lou Bizzarro couldn't have been well known before his shot at Duran.

Richard Frazier getting a shot at Roy Jones.

Glen Johnson was unknown when he fought Hopkins.

This will certainly show how ignorant of a boxing fan I was a the time but I had no clue who the hell Axel Schultz was when he came to fight Foreman back in the 90s.
