Im talking about Pac & Hattons previous performance against DLH and Pauly. Im not taking anything away from their wins but imo both opponents were tailor made to make Pac/Hatton look amazing. Pac/DLH: Pac moved up in weight 12 pounds and defeated DLH in a dominant fashion, but DLH had not fought at welter in 10 years and was on the decline. I really think DLH made Pac seem like he was untouchable and had tremendous power, whe in fact Marquez tagged Pac all night and it also took Pac 8 rounds to dispose a cadaver. Hatton/Pauly: Lets face it naggi didnt throw a single combination the entire fight and wouldnt even put a dent on Khans chin that night. He was reluctant to fire anything and wasnt comitting. On the other hand Hatton did not go to his old dirty tactics and fought a solid gameplan.
Hatton's win over Paulie is overrated by the US fans, whilst it is probably given appropriate credit here. At the weigh-in he looked confident, then after about one minute of the second round the fight was over. Wherever Paulie tried to run, Hatton was already there!
both are overrated,but a win against DLH even if its a way past is prime version its still better than beating Paulie.
Hattons win over Paulie is NOT over rated its Under Rated if you ask me, look at the performance Paulie put on against Cotto, some argue that fight was close enough to be a draw. some argue the fight was very very close I think Cotto won clearly but I remember the broadcasters and some here on the forum felt Paulie did enough to get a draw. Anyhow look at Hattons performance against the same guy, now lets be realistic here, Hatton had just picked up Mayweather Sr, and was able to slip and counter with ease, I mean Hatton just out worked Paulie in every way, Paulie obviously expected to see the Hatton of Old and ended up fighting something a bit different. This is why i think he beats Pacquiao, he was able to make some major adjustments in the first fight with Sr, he has had plenty of time to learn a few new things and I expect to see this all play out on May 2nd. Up until the Tszyu fight Hatton did everything that he did in the Paulie fight..... all he did was revert back to his original ways. Paulie was much better in the Cotto fight than he was against Hatton. For me it was a combo of 2 things. Hatton was pretty good, Paulie was shockingly bad.
I think its that Paulie prepaired for the old Hatton and didnt seem to have a plan B~ your right he did better against Cotto as I said in my previous post and in boxing many view Cotto to be the better skilled between he and Hatton, some how Hatton was able to adjust to what Paulie was going to bring and he made it look so ****ing easy.
If we use your same idealism than we can compare DLH's performance against Mayweather Jr to DLH's performance against Pac which is not the case here. The truth is both opponents didnt live up to expectations. I agree with you and Hatton though he did seem to pick up some technique and didnt rush in as usual.
Damn can we see fight really that different way? IMO Hatton wasnt slipping away ****. Paul didnt ****ing throw any punches, he was like freezed. why didnt Paul let his hands go? hand problems or?:huh I would call that fight like Hatton had make any major adjustments..
I get you now.... Paulie prepared for a guy who would rush in and tire himself out. I predicted Hatton by stoppage after about 9 rounds, maybe 6-3 up at the time. For a supposed slickster he was (and always has been) alarmingly hittable. Hittable opponent = mincemeat when faced with Hatton, unless you have KO power in one or both hands.... or a rock solid chin. There aren't many hittable guys between 135-147 that could beat Hatton. Mosley is the obvious one!
well alot of people seem to think paulie was to scared for the body shot..i think he was too shocked . i think buddie had told him it was just going to be same old hatton. and he was shocked.
I can see why McGirt drilled that into him.... N'Dou was slapping him to the body at will in the rematch. The thing is.... the guys that have competed best with Hatton (Magee,Thaxton, Tszyu, Collazo and Mayweather) have been prepared to take a few bodyshots in order to get their own punches off. There is this big myth that Hatton is great on the inside. ALL his best work is done at midrange, drawing the lead from the opponent (as San Rafael has eluded to before).
Pac's over DLH. I never thought much of Malignaggi to begin with so I didn't rate it that high. It's a nice win but nothing special. I think Pac's win over DLH and even Diaz are more overrated than Hatton's over Malignaggi.
