Well, I'not so sure but I think they hadn't 3 minutes rounds back then but a round was over when a knockdown occured. So it's hardly comparable to the Jeanette-McVey bout in which McVey knocked Jeanete down 27 times, was knocked down himself 19 times and wasn't able to come out for the 50th round.

I think Battling Nelson had some very long fights as well, if I remember correct.

That is insane. I read that the 3 minute round rule was in effect for a long time and they finally started limiting the rounds in 1866. That is what is considered the more 'modern' day of boxing.

In 1866 the Marquess of Queensberry gave his support to a new set of rules, which were named in his honor. These rules limited the number of 3-minute rounds, eliminated gouging and wrestling, and made the use of gloves mandatory.

Wow... just looked this up on boxrec:

This is the longest glove fight on record, lasting 7 hours and 19 minutes. The bout was called a draw after 110 rounds, with both fighters too tired to continue. Purse - $2,500

That works out to be 3 minute rounds with 1 minute in between.
These guys were warriors! All that for a draw?!?!?

This has got to be there or thereabouts:

The longest bare-knuckle fight in Africa took place between Barney Malone and Jan Silberbauer outside Kimberley, South Africa. The fight lasted 5 hours and 30 minutes. Malone was declared the winner after 212 rounds.
