In my opinion if a boxer pulls out of a fight for whatever reason it should count as a loss for them and a win for the other boxer. To many times boxers pull out of fights and just move on and never reschedule . Also, imo if a boxer vacates a belt to avoid a mandatory it should also count as a loss , it'll help weed out the cherry pickers and force champions and top ranked contenders to actually fight. Just my .02
I think it would be easier to just say a World Champion has to make at least 3 defences of his title a year including fighting the Number 2 contender. Failure to make 3 defences would result in them being stripped of their belt and the Top 2 contenders would then fight for it. Also i would add that if a Champion does not fight for 6 months due to Injury or any other reasin, they are also stripped of their title and the two top contenders will fight for the vacant title. When the Ex Champion recovers from their injury they will then be in line for one of the 3 defences the new champion has to make. It's really that simple. Boxing needs a World Wide Governing Body plus regional ones too for every country so that everything is controlled and rules and penalities imposed.
I think it's a bit irrational to record a loss on a boxer's record for pulling out of a fight. If that was the case, promoters would take full advantage and boxers with only 10 fights would be like 50-0....:deal
no. this is a knee jerk reaction to something that pissed you off. elite level training and sparring is very taxing and **** happens.
