Narvaez simply outclassed Whitfield and was starting to put a beating on him. Stoppage may have been a little premature, but still. Whitfield docked two points for using his elbows. He also cut Narvaez twice through headbutts and repeatedly incurred in low blows. Has he always been so dirty or was he just overwhelmed?
Thanks for the update, wow this Narvaez guy is underrated maybe one of the logest champions availabe.
He is great but he's allowed to feast on easy opposition and often obviously gtes home advantage where it's easier. Don't blame him for staying at home if the money's there and Omar has one or two weird blemishes from fighting away, a draw with some guy that I still can't fathom. Must be hard for a fighter like Whitfield. Doesn't seem to have any fan base, any kind of TV presence. Black flyweights don't seem to really catch on, and it can't be easy to develop him, keep him busy despite excellent ability. So in all everything favored Narvaez it would seem, but he outclassed a good fighter. How about it, Narvaez-Darchinyan? Wishful thinking but wouldn't it be excellent. Narvaez the flyweigth Calzaghe, a good/bad thing sort of.
I would much rather see Narvaez go on and try to unify the Flyweight division, just like Calzaghe did with the Super middleweights.
Navarez is a good little fighter..His opposition actually really hasnt been that bad, he just is busy and obscure..He is pretty well travelled actually. But it seems he has burnt some bridges in english speaking world and I have my doubts if we will ever see him in the U.S...And probably not Japan where the other players in the division are at the moment.
I was actually thinking about that myself. Where does he go from here? I mean, he already surpassed Monzon's number of defenses (15 to 14), which was his goal, and is not getting any younger, although he is still at the top of his game. I don't picture him fighting in Asia or Asian fighters coming to Argentina (or Europe) and he won't get the big bucks in Argentina. In addition, there is no one left for him to fight in Europe. Thus, he should probably fight in the US. Whitfield could have been a good choice, but not after this, so who is left....Nonito Donaire. That could make sense, and it would make for a good fight, a title unification bout that the networks could pick for little money. I don't see him moving up in weight either. Apparently there were talks in the past about Narvaez vs Darchinyan (at 112), but apparently the Narvaez camp turn them down
Shaw put a lot of effort into getting this fight made and was going to give Narvarez his biggest payday. He went to Argentina a couple of times he reckons and had the fight just about done. But it got called off, according to Shaw, after Team Navarez started getting very difficult....And Shaw is not a man who easily forgives so I dont see him being on Vic's radar ever to be frank. Omar also made a last minute call to pull out of a defense of his title in Australia against Hussein Hussein, which I think killed any chance of him fighting Vic there either. Different situation I think there, Im pretty sure there were problems with the promotion on the Australian end aswell but as far as I can remember Naverez was the one who pulled out.
