Today the best one that I've seen is still in the amateurs. He's a lightweight, went to the Olympic Trials at 125, has close to 200 fights and was runner up at this year's National Golden Gloves. Because of our high Native American population a lot of boxers in Montana are Native American and still live on the reservations.

I think people forget that Joe Hipp actually challenged for the World heavyweight championship... against Bruce Seldon on the Tyson v Mcneeley undercard.. Joe was better than your ordinary joe...

The first and only Native American Indian to fight in a heavyweight title fight. He could have won that fight too if his tactic would have been to go after him and bully Seldon instead of trying to out box him.

Jim Thorpe! Well, not really. But if the guy ever put on gloves, I'm sure nobody could have beat him.

Currently, undefeated Cruiserweight Shawn Hawk is of native blood (and a huge puncher, might I add).

All-time, Virgil Hill has to be #1.

I believe that Hawk was mentioned as a Contender participant which is featuring cruiserweights on Versus this coming winter. He is in tough company with the others that are also competing on the show.

If this was the case you would have to consider all Latinos who have some kind of indigenous blood in their Mix hence, "Mestizo".

Like you mentioned Mexicans having Aztec ( there are so many tribes in Mexico, but they were under the Aztec empire).

    Puerto Ricans having Taino

    Colombians have Tariano, ect...

But I think the question is specificly addressing Native Americans of the USA. That being the case I would say Virgil Hill has to be the most accomplished boxer. He isn't full blooded Native, but he does identify with his Native roots.

I was just made aware of this link.

    http://www.nativeboxing.com/

There is a sanctioning organization affiliated with the WBC/NABF that ranks and grants titles to exclusively Native boxers.
