I saw PBF using a weird weight contraption that hung from his head. obviously I don't have such equipment. What sort of exercises can I do to make my neck bigger/thicker?
I cant remember which F1 driver it was, i think Coulthard, he said in an interview he youst to lie on a table with his head hanging off the one side and do mini-sit ups with his neck so i guess that would pretty much be the best way to strengthen your neck without equipment.
Do them off the ring apron. Just ly down with your head hanging off the edge and raise your neck. Alternatively use a neck harness like PBF uses with weights on it. Works for me.
Yup front to back and both sides. Thats how i do it. Matter of fact i just come back from the gym and done mine.
There are a few neck strengthening exercises I have used in my training over the years Here they are 1 My first couple of trainers were old school guys who didnt believe in weight training. They would have you kneel on the ground while someone wrapped a towel around your headYou would then try to pull you head forward while they pulled the towel inother exercise theyn the opposite direction, causing resistence. 2 Then another exercise they would have us do is roll on our necks
To add to my previous post reply, I now strengthen my neck with weight training. I feel it gets better results than the old school methods that I mentioned before 1 Use a neck strengthening harness Use a light weight to start and just stand up with your hands on your knees and just move your neck up and down Do three sets of ten 2Do dumbell shoulder shrugs to make your trapezius muscles stronger
I always just take the palm of my hand, and place it on the side of my head (around my jaw), and push. You try to push your head with your hand, but with your neck you push back. Do it stiffly, and hold it for a bit (I do it around 40 seconds each angle). Place palm on the right side, then left, then take both hands and grab the back of your head (while trying to pull your neck upwards), and then take your palm and put it on your forehead (push your head foreward). I've done them for a couple of years now, plus weight training, and my neck is quite big/ strong. Ever since I started doing them I've been hit pretty hard in sparring (black eyes, busted lips, jaws hurt, etc), but I've never been ROCKED. They hit me, and my face hurts, but it's like my neck/ body won't allow me to move on impact. Plus, my neck never gets sore after sparring anymore.
