This is everything that is wrong with boxing, fighters sneaking past other fighters to get a strap.....If you want to be considered a world champion you have to beat the best, you dont turn your back and try to go the easy route

 

Brook beats Alexander. Absolutely convinced about that. People overrate Alexander because he's won a few world titles. Look at his record though. He was beaten the **** up by Bradley, comfortably out pointed by Kotelnik (who in turn was outclassed by Amir Khan) and beat a blown up Maidana who wasn't strong at the weight. Oh yeah, and he beat a past it Junior Witter.

Brook beats him, no doubt. Maybe even by KO. He brings the IBF welterweight title back to Britain and he moves onto to other big fights.

As for Rees-Broner, as much as I want the upset to happen I see Broner winning. I think Gavin gives him his toughest fight to date though. Rees is a warrior and he'll have his moments in the fight but I see Broner stopping him in the final rounds. I'll say about 10th.

Rees is a former world and European Champion. Ranked with multiple organisations. Still only lost one fight at workd level and has significantly improved since then. Is top 10 at Lightweight. Barker less so but he was European champion, undefeated and ranked top 10 by everybody.

Jennings and Lockett had lost at domestic level and never fought above British title level.

 

I don't think Rees would beat any of the belt holders at 135 or Abril for the vacant WBA so he may as well fight for the most money and thats vs Broner. Still don't see why HBO would buy it though.

Back on topic though, in 2013 Eddie Hearn will probably have fighters in world title fights at LHW, SMW, MW, WW, LW & BW and some of those potential fights such Froch/Kessler, Froch/Ward, Bellew/Dawson could be open air PPV fights.

Then after Brook beats Alexander, there could be mega unification fights to follow. I think Barker/Geale can be made were there could be some big domestic fights to follow against the likes of Murray/Macklin.

Whilst all of the above is going on we'll no doubt be reading more excuses about why Ricky Burns won't fight Broner and Nathan Cleverly will fight more no-mark WBO mandatories.

Eddie Hearn is definitely making progress and should be applauded IMO.

 

dont really see it as a risk putting rees in with Broner his career was going nowhere really he was just fighting on Undercards for Matchroom, dont know if he sells tickets or not, and will probably make more from this fight than waiting for purse bids for WBA title

 

I think, looking at who both had beaten to get to those positions, it's hard to argue they had form. It's why Barker was such a heavy underdog against Martinez.

While I agree that Rees is more qualified than Lockett or Jennings, I think it's a bit of a stretch to suggest he is "levels" above. Same for Barker, I'm afraid.

Will he deliver any of LHW, MW, WW, BW a home title shot if he truly backed his fighters he would put up the money to bring the champion to britian instead of sending them abroad to challenge

 

thing is a manager has to get the best money for there fighter and fighting at home dosent always give you the best money

 

I'm not that interested in this fight in all honesty. I like Rees and am pleased for him to get a chance but like ishy has been saying, he has next to no chance of winning. To be honest, the only fights I'd look forward to at Lightweight are the 4 champions facing each other. Both Burns and Vasquez have beaten a few of the contenders and really should be aiming for unifications now whilst Broner and Abril have shown vs DeMarco and Rios too that they deserve to be mentionned alongside them.

Ideally, I'd like to see the Abril-Broner fight that was originally suggested and Burns-Vasquez woukd be a ******* too. Then the winners face off. But then I suppose this is boxing after all....

And the thread title is wank. "New age promoting"? What getting a fighter a shot against some American champ, even though said fighter is massive underdog. Yeah cos that never happened in the pre-Eddie years.
