Terrible as in truly terrible, not fearsome - I trained for an hour yesterday and couldn't nail it. Coach and I were both frustrated. Any tips? I seem to be making two mistakes: - I scoop (as opposed to extend) my right arm, bending (as I shouldn't) at the knees as I throw it. - Having thrown it, I find myself standing up too straight and - this is the most frustrating bit - leaning too far forward. I can't seem to transfer my weight onto my leading foot or push off my rear leg otherwise. In particular, I am under the impression that my rear leg should straighten when throwing this punch. Is this correct? If so, isn't it natural that my body would incline towards the target? Of course, all this form goes to power and balance - or lack thereof, making it very difficult to follow up, e.g. with left hook. Thanks in advance for your help.
Hip rotation and drive from the right knee. The arm should be bent not straight. The shorter the better.
It all comes from the toe. Make sure that back foot isnt flat on the ground. As you throw it raise your heel. The hand actually should hardly drop. You see some guys dropping their hands to their waistes. Dont do that. Drop your shoulder, keep our hand tucked into your chin and let the shot go from the toe.
Watch zab judah v miguel cotto. Judahs lead left uppercut is unreal and lands so many times in that fight. His is the best in the business.
Little tip for you - close your left shoulder i.e just bring your left shoulder to your chin, then release your uppercut - you want to aim the uppercut for the space that your left shoulder occupied when you released the punch.
