been drafted into next fridays welterweight prizefighter after neil sinclair withdrew. given the standard of fighters than are included, bar bami and perhaps minter, you'd have to give him a great chance of winning it, even if he is stepping up in weight.

The contenders in the tournament are Ted Bami (Brixton, London), Steve Conway (Dewsbury, West Yorkshire), Craig Dickson (Glasgow), George Hillyard (Canning Town, London), Mark Lloyd (Telford), Michael Lomax (Chingford, Essex), Ross Minter (Crawley), Nigel Wright (Hartlepool).

i'd have to agree.......watching wright against mcloskey i seen enough to think he'll have a great chance........depending on how much time he's had to prepare, and if he's kept himself relatively fit

I think that the 3 rounds might suit Wright better then Bami who you'd have to say has the best pedigree in there. Not sure that he will be consistent enough though and you can soon fall behind in these fights.

    Looking forward to it anyhow.

Is Hearn promoting as he has with the heavyweights - nice little franchise he's got going on there. It didn't sound like it would work but, certainly for the first one, it seems to.

Im a fan of Wright. Not a fan of the man, but a fan of the fighter.

However, how can anyone predict how this prizefighter will go? Its all about who are fast starters IMO.
For instance, if Alex Arthur appeared in Prizefighter he would lose everytime, cos hes notorious for being a slow starter who takes 4 rounds to get into his rythm.

To me, watching a prizefighter at a lower weight division will be a bit of a learning experience. Its all about which fighters in the tournament have a history of being explosive starters IMO, they shall be the ones who do best.

But I could be wrong! As I say, its easy to pick the best fighters to win, but are they good early on? If you catch my drift. Its worth checking out records before putting money on IMO...

i dont really think a fighter who's a slow starter in a 12 rounder will take that mentality into a format like prizefighter. the need for a change in mentality is what makes it hard to predict.

you might get a guy who's normally a pressure fighter and thus you'd think more suited to the format, but then theres always the chance he goes too far and leaves himself wide open to a knockdown. a 10-8 round in a 3 round slugfest is huge deficit to come back from.

then theres the normally slow starters who might change there fighting style just enough to perfectly suit the format and take advantage of any guys rushing in.

i think guys like bami and wright have a great chance. bami has a decent chin and good power. wright has good basic skills and a good chin. the problem with minter is that he doesnt really fight with any sort of intelligence and his punch resistance is pretty poor, but true, his basic fighting style you'd think would be perfectly suited to this format.

is a toss up between wright and bami for me.
