Jose Luis Lopez the guy took huge punches without even blinking a good example of that is his war with James Page where he got hit with bomb after bomb and he continued to go forward like it was nothing.

One of the best displays of Chin prowess i've ever seen.

Kenny LaSalle. According to newspaper reports I've read, the likes of Charley Burley, Fritzie Zivic, Archie Moore, Cocoa Kid and Kid Azteca took turns trying to knock him out but none were successful. Eventually the punishment piled up and he was stopped by Kenny Watkins, the only time he was ever stopped in his 120 fight career.

George 'Scrap Iron' Johnson is a good mention. I always found it odd that he has a first round KO loss listed on his BoxRec record to Andy Kendall, a middleweight/light heavyweight contender, with Johnson weighing only around 160 pounds, even though only weeks before and after that bout he had weighed in at a solid 200+ lbs and never weighed any less than that in any other fight in his career. It has to be some kind of a mistake.

 

Scrapiron was also rather brutally ko'ed by Jerry Quarry...a spectacular 1 punch ko at that.

 

I don't think he was ever floored throughout his career either.

He sponged some ripping shots in his fight with Lester Ellis as well and was never even wobbled,and Lester could punch.

 

I watched that fight live at the time, and as I remember it Quarry backed him into the ropes and just clocked him. That was that. He did go the distance with Quarry the other two times they fought. Having a decent chin is a prerequisite for any journeyman, but Scrap Iron was stopped quite a bit.

 

But it was from accumalation usually he would take extended beatings and the ref would stop it. Rarely went down and out, Fraizer,Foreman and Liston have all talked about Scrap Irons ability to absorb punishment. He took Foremans best only was stopped because of a cut. Fraizer landed everything and the kitchen sink at Scrap and couldnt finish him.

 

I've never watched it but I heard it was a bad beating.

Interestingly Michael was badly bashed (attacked from behind) and bitten in an attack at a nightclub by a very notorious Australian underworld figure called Alphonse Gangitano prior to this fight,which must have surely contributed to his defeat as he was badly injured.

Gangitano was later murdered in Melbourne's underworld war,karma happened to him eventually,so **** him.
