Odd number of rounds

Just having a look down the list of fights tonight and there's a fight in Panama scheduled for 11 rounds (Solis V Miranda). At first i thought it must be a misprint, but when I checked Solis' record he's also fought a 9 rounder.

I've never seen this before, is it common?

 

In South America it seems fairly common as well as scoring with half points. all a bit bizarre really.

 

How do you mean half points? as in you could win a round 10 - 9.5? or something else entirely?

Its a WBA thing isn't it? Trying to cut down on level scorecards or something, not the worst idea really...

 

They used to score quarter points in the UK. Joe Bugner beat Henry Cooper by 1/4 of a point over 15 rounds.

 

Donaire lost in a 5-rounder I believe.

 

In the late 80s for a while, the NABF experimented with a 13th round, if a fight was scored a draw...

The best solution to not having draws is to just have Ian John-Lewis as a judge :deal

In 1968 Johnny Clark beat John McCluskey over 9 rounds ( 44¾-43¾ ) at Empire Pool Wembley.

 

How do the half and quarter points work though/ Is it still '10 point must' but you can win a round 10 - 9.75 or 10 - 9.5?

I'd really like to know as boxing scoring is something that fascinates me (yeah I'm a sad *******)

Yes but it was usually 5 points with 4.75 to the loser.

 

Not sure how they do it but you seem to seem 114 1/2 to 113 1/2 scores and ****.
