What a waste of time that effort was. The Kazakh was tricky but Evans' jab was non-existant and he at no time looked able to up the pace.

Bollocks!! You try having 4 fights in 2 weeks at that level and then seeing how you go!!

Some of the comments in this thread are far too harsh on Freddie Evans.

That was the sort of performance that I was fearing from Evans. Always seems to fight within himself. He won none of his previous fights by the margins that he should have done. Ok, the other guy was better, but Evans could have left a lot more in the ring than that.

No, you are only ever going to be in that position ONCE in your whole life.

The kid froze up, even if he was tired from his earlier bouts he just frooze in his boots.

The occasion was too much to him and he seemed happy to settle for the silver. He froze, it wasn't tiredness that kept him from throwing punches. If he was tired he'd have been throwing and missing, he didn't do that, he was in survival mode from start to finish and will be kicking himself when it sinks on the chance he has blown.

My mate knows him well, he was as fit as could be.

He just didn't show up mentally for whatever reason.

I wouldn't blame Evans he hardly went on not wanting to win, the pressure he would have been under would have been absolutely phenomenal. Imagine being a young guy with the full country behind you and the full world watching you on telly for one of the biggest ever prizes in sport. You're an unknown and if you win a fight you will be catapulted into stardom and wealth. It's nerve wracking enough having a fight without all this added pressure and it became too much and he froze

. I've done it myself fighting in my own town hall in front of all my mates and family- hardly comparable to his situation but the phsychological and physiological effects are the same. A bit of adrenalin aids performance but when you get too much it becomes a hindrance. Basic skills become difficult. Every move you make seems forced and unnatural, you end up looking for a perfect opportunity to attack and it never occurs, before you know it your 9 minutes have passed and you've done **** all.

Evans just didn't perform, I would say he froze!

Loads of reasons why this might have happened but the outcome is the same. Will be interesting to hear what he has to say

if in the final it is level scores and level on count back they should split the gold between the finalists.
