A piece from War Baby (Fantastic Read btw) Benn vs Barkley...both fighters in the ring...the announcements made now the fighters await the bell in there corners..but there's been a tv delay for 30 seconds as it's behind schedule. so Benn's in his corner and Vic Andreetti shouts up from the corner ''Nigel..'' Benn can hardly hear him...''Nigel!'' Benn replies''Yeah?'' ''You know all that stuff i been teachin' ya, the tactics and whatever?'' ''yeah, yeah i know Vic! leave me alone'' Andreetti replies ''Well **** all that, Nige! Just Knock this **** out!'' And he did....Only in British Boxing Aye Add on if you have anything that happens only in British Boxing (Funny/Good Stuff not moaning like a ***** about ducking etc)..That had me me in stitches.
Look at Nigel Benn watching his fight against Iran Barkley. He his that wild primative look on his face, like a animal........i don't think Nigel Benn was the type of guy to re-watch his fights. He was ****ing Livid. 2min 20sec Mark. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmiywgMgC1w[/ame]
Them shots he hit him with, had to laugh when Benn laughs at hitting Barkley when he's down . Your right Benn was like an animal in the ring. He's our very own Tyson, LaMotta etc. The man didn't do games just straight banging. My Half Sister had a car accident with him, nothing big just your typical clash on roads. She was little shaken up so after they exchanged a details he took to pub for a drink. Said he lovely fella and this was around the time of the suicide attempt as well. He was enigma and we love him for it.
I'm reading his book now, i've only did 4 pages.....because allot has been going on. His natural instincts are totally to fight, the Dark Destroyer will never die down. I've only ever red Frank Bruno's book "fighting back", and that was amazing. It had me laughing, and also crying..........i cried at the end of the book. And just sat on my bed, for awhile........ Got some Prince Naseem Hamed "Those who he left behind book".......it was written by some Irish Bouncer, and someone in the Ingle crowd or some ****. It was very deep, i never got around to finishing it.... I only like autobiographies.........it's like there speaking to you.
One of my favourite moments in a boxing ring is seeing Alan Rudkin lifted up after winning against McGowan in their rematch and the crowd singing 'You Will Never Walk Alone', real good moment in boxing that is.
That's pure class...hairs on badk of neck stuff. Yep that's a great shout Ish. Sometimes ref's get a lot of stick but that was a inspired decision and made the fight even better although in the end it probably allowed the fight to go one a lil to long still a special moment in a epic bout.
Atmospheres like the ones generated in the small halls of Glasgow and Belfast are unlike any other in the world IMO.
Lindsay beating Appleby and Burns last month...i had the volume up and was gripped by the whole event. Brilliant atmospheres.
