Does the WBC still mandate? I remember I hated the idea of open scoring when it started. I cant really think of any fights where it was key. Just about every fight with it was a one sided affair and it brought on no surprises.

Only one fight springs to mind with open scoring. That would be Bell vs Mormeck 2 in France. The rematch following the upset by Bell where he trailed but came back to score a come from behind KO. This was a very significant fight seeing Mormeck unified with Braithwait the first Cruiser unification since the days of Holyfield.

The fight was action packed with two guys who could hit and didn't like eachother going to war. Each man had been hurt at different times during the fight. After 8 rounds they read off the scorecards and Mormeck was winning by a ggod margin. The championship rounds the time when the drama reaches its pinnacle was ruined. A big action fight is supposed to end with a dramatic fight to the finish. Instead Mormeck played it safe and avoided a fight. The fight went from a KO for either guy to /mormeck taking the safe way out.

After that I realized open scoring can ruin a good fight.

From what I remember about an old Kevin Iole mailbag, Open scoring is still used in WBC fights outside of either the US or North America. And apparently it still sucks.

Very anti climatic for fans too I'd like it if they told the fighters but not the fans

  4. Open scoring is garbage. It does far more harm to a fight than good.
