i must say i wasnt overly impressed with khan. i think he looked very one-dimensional when trying to get his shots off. very predictable and i think he has a lot to learn before he can think of fighting bradley or alexander. great jab, but it seemed to be the defining punch in the fight. Maybe I over estimated khan in this one but i think he could lead with the right hand more and take a step back after throwing the 1-2. again, needs to settle down on his punches and think about how to land that right hand rather than just throwing it on top of the jab all the time.
Ortiz showed some decent movement and defensive skills against Cambell. The Maidana disaster has made him be more of a safety-first fighter now. This would actually be a pretty good fight imo. Ortiz actually had a lot of aggression and recklessness. It was stolen from him by Maidana. The Ortiz from the Cambell fght is a totally diff fighter.
Against the big punchers like Ortiz and Maidana, Khan sadly would be up by 4/5 rounds, before getting stopped. That's if his defence isn't as improved as it needs to be against these guys
I was rooting for Khan all the way but have to agree with a lot of your points. Although he was sitting on his shots more, Khan looked very ragged yesterday and stuck with a very rigid straight ahead style. He didn't show a lot of the improvements he had made under Roach last night, I put a lot of that down to nerves because of his US debut. But when you get to this level, there are going to be a loy of high pressure fights and abandoning lateral movement and practically negating body shots against a slick fighter is unbelivable! On the other hand Ortiz looked very impressive last night, his footwork and spinning off when he'd finished his combinations was impressive. I think it would be a good fight but I'm not sure Ortiz has wht it takes to outbox Khan, he's shown he loses heart when he takes a few good shots.
How many clean power-punches did he even have to take? 1? There is still an issue with his punch resistance though and that won't go away, but he is doing a lot better in protecting it, not just his guard but also by improving his jab and range control. If Ortiz is afforded the luxury of landing big consistently than Khan is in for a world of hurt, but I just don't see it. I think Khan has the technical skills now to stick behind and frustrate Ortiz and even hurt him at times using speed and angles on his shots. I don't see a fire in Ortiz anymore, I think the Maidana fight took a lot out of him mentally.
i can tell ortiz is trying to box more but thats not his natural fighting insticts. khan would beat him more skilled an polished.
