I know people are either to busy being stuck on hating Overeem, or praising Overeem, but didn't anybody hear he had a 4 month training camp instead of the normal 2 months? As past has shown (boxing, or MMA) it's very common for these guys to gas in no time. Just look at Mosley vs Mayweather (in which Mosley trained 3-4 months) and he gassed within 2 freakin rounds. He comes back and manages to go 12 with Pac, and didn't look as bad in 12th round vs Pac as he did in the 3rd vs Mayweather. Overeem's a behemoth of a man, and I'm sure it's hard for Overeem to breathe anyways cuz he is so big, but I do think he was overtrained. The fight definitely wasn't good due to both parties.
I think his size and past steroid abuse gassed him out. I'm assuming he spent most of those four months off the juice so he could pass the drug tests, which then left him with most of the bulk but none of the cardio. Power is great in a 30 second fight. But if Overeem doesn't win immediately by overwhelming his opponent, he's vulnerable after that.
Well between fighting a good, solid fighter in Silva, a good striker in Sergei in a rematch that he lost, and Barnett who's a great wrestler and a big dude I think beating any 2 of them should get him respect. A win over Werdum is a good win though against an always dangerous opponent IMO. Wasn't a good fight by any means, but a good win for Overeem.
Werdum was a gift. He needed an impressive performance against a legit HW and he didnt deliver. End of story
If he beats Silva will you then say "he's shown something at hw"? Then goes on to beat Barnett, or redeem himself against Sergei? If he won the HW Grand Prix then would you still say he's done nothing at HW?
NOTHING suggests he beats Silva. He's yet to win the GP either. If he does then fair play, I'll put this down to a bad night at the office. Until then it's business as usual in MMA for REEM, I.E. he's done **** all in MMA
I don't understand what happened. He didn't seem to want to hit Werdum since the begining of the fight... !!
He finally fight a legit opponent. Look at Overeems last 10 opponents. He was fought really easy competition until tonight and I thought he lost. WTF did Overreem do? Absolutely nothing in 3 rounds accept worry about take downs and he was still ****ing tried! Werdum out threw and outlanded him. Overeems previous 10 opponents in order: Todd Duffee Brett Rogers ( way- over-rated and over-hyped) Kazuyuki Fujita :-( James Thompson :barf Tony Sylvester who? Gary Goodridge :-( Cro Cop No Contest Mark Hunt (the guy even Sean McCorkle could beat 1 minute 3 seconds) Lee Tae-Hyun :huh Paul Buentello For the Strikeforce HW Title. Buentello isnt good enough to fight in the UFC. Alistair was coming off a knock out loss to Khairitonov. How the **** was this a World title fight. This is sickening, and people keep braging about his undefeated streak. He hadnt fought anyone!!! Werdum won tonight.
Stop stealing my opinions again, I was saying this before the fight while you were talking "Reem KO1", BTW, Werdum was robbed, that fight should have been taken to the 4th at the very least, Werdum won the first clearly and won the 3rd as well.
I'm really not seeing how anyone could see the fight as anything other than a win for The Reem... the way Werdum fell over time after time reminded me slightly of when Aoki trying that stupid dropkick **** in that *special rules match. Werdum lost a lot of respect from me last night :verysad Barnett gained a lot... for a drugs cheating **** that should be on a lifetime ban. Rogers is done... Dan Severn next for him. It seems the Fedor and Reem fights finished him off mentally. Big Foot will be a massive test for The Reem but i think with the correct amount of time to prepare he will finish him. The hardest test will be Josh "Roid Monster" Barnett :deal Lynchburg
