He had some but it was more of a casual one instead of the organized one like many developed nations have like here in the US. The Philippines has some organized amateur structure but it is nowhere on the level of the US or UK.

Pac's amateur experience was all fought in the Philippines although not the kind of amateur fights here in the U.S.

He was 60-4 in his country's amateur games. emmanuel not having any amateur experience is the biggest myth surrounding him. If I remember correctly, emmanuel also tried to get jump into a national pinoy team, but they rejected his AZZ.

    A myth.

I believe he fought as an amateur but amateur boxing in the Philippines is not like the US. He only fought in his province not around the country. He fought when he was 10 or 12. I think.

according to his Top Rank bio, he actually did make the National Amateur team and the government paid for his room and board in the meanwhile.

I heard the national team from somewhere.

We both know he has amateur experience though. THe myth that he didn't fight as an amateur is very easy to sell. part of emmanuel's appeal to the average joe and hoe is that he was an underdog that beat the odds and worked his way to the top. It makes his story that more romantic for the feint of heart if they can believe he was just a crazy kid who ran away from home and immediately started boxing at 16.

thanks for that. I appreciate it. YOu don't get much info about emmaneul's background experience. 50% of people still think this guy didn't participate as an amateur.

no prob. But I don't think it was in the same way more developed countries do. Not like how you have to keep books and pay dues and everything. A guy on the same Top Rank bio recalls Manny as always flailing around and having a lot of power but not a lot of ring smarts. You basically showed up to the fights and waited to fight someone and it was after a friend died in a street fight that he turned professional so it sounds like he felt he might as well start getting paid to fight. He was an amateur in the sense that he was pretty much doing it free, less than 3 dollars hardly counts as a purse.

The bolded is true. He did beat all the odds. If you count local fights, meaning just his province, as amateur fights then yeah.

Pac's amateur experience is fighting thru barangay fiesta. He turned pro at 16 weighing a mere 100 pounds and putting metal bars in his pocket so he'll be qualified for the fight. How can you have a decent amateur background when you're only 100 pounds? I saw Pac's 1st fight and I thought he was a toddler. Basically, PAC skipped the amateur level and went straight to Pro :thumbsup
