I rewatched the fight and you're right!! Unbelievable. The Mexican did push him after landing the shot but Barnes went to his knees because of the punch. Imagine if Paddy had won / drawn by a point. His comments on Sunny Edwards are rotten and ridiculous.
Karma for what he said about Edwards, his only hope is to become a name for up and coming lads to beat up to get a name on their record, meanwhile Edwards has another world title fight.
I noticed Paddy on the slide in the amateurs. Turned pro way too late. When he turned over I couldn't believe how dismissive of the task at hand he was. Believed the world titles would come no problem. Rushed himself to world level way too quickly and it's unsurprisingly been a disaster. Not only did he turn over way too late, he gave himself no transitional period. Bad decisions all round.

So he's basically saying that being fast-tracked like so many Asians and Eastern Europeans with a strong am background nowadays isn't for him, as he should have taken the standard British/US approach of fighting pushovers before stepping up. Expect him to come back against cannon fodder then. "Record" Paddy Barnes it is.
Problem with Barnes is he's past it. Had half a chance to do something in the pros but he underestimated the jump and fell flat on his face. Too late now I think. Last thing he needed at this stage was a couple of beatings. Although he probably owes it to himself to start again.
Barnes and butler to be fair are getting beat only by much bigger men. Barnes and Butler are both too small to compete above fly....but it appears they can’t make fly. So where does that leave them. ??? Answers on a postcard please....
Like I said earlier, I liked him as an amateur. However that statement stinks of delusion - he's acting likes he's started the pro ranks like Lomachenko when his first 5 opponents had a combined record of 60-69-6. If we want the truth, he fought 5 plodders then stepped up to world class. He should still be building now, be around 8-10 fights in where he has gradually stepped up. I fear it might be too late for him. That's if MTK can get him the fights, which I'm not certain they can.
