It wasn't that bad was it? People seem to exaggerate how bad his chin was.

    - But you have to remember, he was a natural middleweight winning the Olympic Gold Medal as a MW. So he probably had an average chin to be honest, for a middlweight of that time.
    - He got stopped by power punchers in his prime (Liston and Johansson).
    - He got stopped by Muhammed Ali when he was past prime.

I think his chin was bang on average and definitely not glass, similar to Lennox Lewis.

Obviously Floyd's chin wasn't the best, but he kept getting up.
That's because he never had a glass heart.

I never said that, I said his chin was average but not glass.

Patterson was a middleweight and his chin seems average at the time. SHW's like Lewis are massive compared to the fighters of Patterson's era.

You're right. Sure he may have gotten knocked down, but he did get back up.

u directly compared Patterson claiming he had MW chin to Lewis, saying they were comparable.

I recall reading a magazine article in the late '60s which stated that it wasn't so much Patterson's chin, but rather a susceptibility to punches to the side of the face that accounted for most of his KDs. Either way, it's true that he kept getting up.

I don’t think that any lineal heavyweight champion had a bad chin as such.

Some were bad enough to save you, if the rest of the fight wasn’t working out.

As opposed to the left jabs to the forehead that knock most guys out?

Being smaller than most HW's he fought, Floyd often lunged at opponents when on the attack like his famous kangaroo left hook. As a result he was often off balance when he was hit. If you've followed his career, many of his knockdowns didn't really hurt him at all. I remember reading somewhere some time ago that one of his legs was a tad shorter than the other which might account for his balance problems on occasion as well.

As to the L. Lewis comments, IMO Floyd looked a little more lucid at the end of the Liston fights than Lennox did in his two brutal defeats.

He had the heart of a champion; I'm not sure any fighter could put Floyd OUT in a 'puddle'.
I'm biased for sure but I'm sure I'm right too. :D
