Yeah, he could well win a few rounds tonight. Personally I don't see Cardle stopping Paul, and the problem with Cardle is he's a very good boxer but against another "good" boxer with a bit of aggression who won't let himself get countered all night, he could end up with his first SD on his record. Either way, part of me questions Matchrooms matchmaking on this one as they could well have underestimated Appleby who has nothing to lose by going for broke and being the underdog in this one. While Cardle, has the pressure on himself to look good. Should be interesting and tentative.
I feel a bit gutted for Paul. He came on the scene in a blaze of glory and blew away a few early opponents. Since then he has made precisely zero progression. He still fights exactly the same way. I thought after the Lareya defeat it wasn't too late to totally disassemble him and start again but now I think it's too late. He's only going one way and that ain't up.
See Paul threw his name in the hat for the lightweight prizefighter think theirs a few folk want on iit. What do you think his chances are of making it on and his prospects of competing? Wasn't sure we would see him out again this but this could be his chance
Would be great to see Paul fighting on the Prizefighter, the format would suit him and it would raise his profile again!! He would need to get on a diet asap though!!! haha
I have to disagree mate, I was down at Lochend with Ronnie Clark and Darren Traynor for a full week of sparring and he certainly isn't showing any signs of being punchy!! Imo the biggest problem now is that nobody wants to give him proper notice for fights so he is always fighting against the weight, he looked at least 11 stone when we were there, so if he only gets a couple of weeks notice then he is killing himself to get to Light Welter never mind Lightweight where he and Terry McCormack want him to be fighting at. Imo only Paul can get himself closer to his fighting weight and make sure that the next time he is given the call he can show if he still has what it takes to compete at British Level.
I get what you mean regards notice and its a liberty when that happens , last two fights john simpsons had i think Eddie Hearn has taken a lenny him fighting against guys far too big for him
I think both Paul Appleby and John Simpson are in the same kind of mould where they need the money and they will fight anyone!! I think John finally has a fight at Featherweight with decent notice so we will see if the last couple of fights have had any effect on him and I hope Paul gets his chance in the prizefighter and we can see if he does have anything left to offer!! He is training hard enough in the gym and if he sorts his weight out he can at least give it a proper go.
I still can't believe Appleby lost to Lareya in a eliminator to fight Ricky Burns for the Title! I mean Appleby should have broke Lareya in half with body shots, but he turned up looking like he was just out the winners and losers. Lareya bossed it that night as he beat Appleby to the jab and made him miss and made him pay. Appleby took a bit of a beating to be honest and he was even retreating at times. It was probably for the best though as Burns would have went into Van Damme mode and kicked his arse all over the camp.
A dont think Appelby has anything left to offer tbh , On the Burns v Beltran undercard he got handed a victory when he was clearly beat tbh it wasnt even close , just didnt get hyped because the beltran decision
steve I don't know what you were watching but paul beat Stephen Ormand that night, loads of Stephens punches were hitting arms and gloves, just because you look busy doesn't mean your affective mate. I don't remember Team Ormand demanding a rematch even though it was a good close fight But to sY handed a fight is bang out of order
Billy that was the wrong night. Appleby fought Ormond on the Burns-Moses undercard. Stevies talking about an other fight.
Billy ya fanny get yer nights right :rofl:rofl Thats another night and the crowd were digusted when appelbys hand got raised a dont think anybody in the arena had appelby ahead in that fight atsch The booing said it all mate even from a home crowd
