Well, he's going to fight in Nov. Collazo served as Williams sparring partner, I doubt that fight will get made. Berto is fighting in late Sept., so he's out. Even if he was ready by Nov., his management won't put him in there with Williams. Mosley is fighting on the same day as Berto. He's already turned down a fight with Williams. No way he'll fight him a month or two after Mayorga. Top Rank has pretty much made it clear that they're not going to put Cotto in there with Williams(especially not coming off a loss.) Cintron pulled out of a fight with Williams. I doubt his comeback fight would be against him. That basically leaves his mando, Clottey, and Margo. If Margo and Clottey don't fight eachother in Nov., either one would be a good fight against Williams. If they do fight eachother, Williams will probably fight his mando.

 

Quintana has already said he doesn't want a rubbermatch. I guess the other Welters are off the hook in terms of being accused of ducking Williams. I guess no one can duck Margo either untill he beats Williams twice. Same thing with Cotto until he beats Margo twice. Oh, and no one can be accused of ducking Clottey until he beats Margo twice.

The difference is the other guys you mentioned are the top 4 WW's in a murky division (including PW) in terms of rankings , while Quintana was barely inside the top ten when he fought Williams. Judah and Mosely lasted longer in the ring with Cotto then Quintana did.

 

It's also his best chance of becoming a full fledged gatekeeper. If he fights Williams and gets pounded again(which would probably happen) that's what he would become, a gatekeeper.

 

So then all the welters can continue avoiding Williams until Quintana decides he wants a rubbermatch? That makes no sense. Right now Quintana is no.6 in the ring ratings. You can bet he was higher before he lost. Williams was somewhere between 8-10 when he fought Margo. So there goes that theory.

 

I hear you, If Quintana refuses to fight he refuses to fight.




I should have pointed out that factors outside of the rankings come into play. We all know styles make fights.

Obviously nobody and there mother gave Quintana a chance against Williams in the first fight. Quintana just got decimated by Cotto and his best win was Joel Julio, while PW just won against Margarito.

Where he is ranked now is irrelevant.

Where PW was ranked against Margarito doesn't matter either, because boxing fans, his promotion were convinced that stylistically he was a nightmare for everybody in the division.

 

If that's your position then don't bring up rankings. Anyway, Williams avenged his loss to Quintana convincingly, and Quintana doesn't want a rubbermatch. Fans should want to see the best fights. I have no problem with Margo fighting someone besides Williams. What I do have a problem with is people putting down Williams for trying to fight the best, and making it out to be like he still has to prove himself before he deserves another fight with Margo. That makes no sense. Williams is a major belt holder, he avenged his only loss, he's one of the best in the division, and he already holds a clear decsion win over Margo. He doesn't have to prove himself to earn another shot at Margo. He's already done that.

 

Never claimed he needs to do something to have another shot at Margarito.

I maintain that it is unfinished business until a third fight can take place at some point down the road. Yes, he did avenge his loss to Quintana, but on the other hand he lost his belt after trying to defend it for the first time after having it for six months to decent fighter who nobody gave a chance to win. It was PW with everything to lose in that fight, I hope at some point in the future we get to see a third fight so that PW can decisively shut the book on this.

 

You clearly said that the other Welters aren't ducking Williams until he beats Quintana, again. So are you telling me that until Quintan gets his **** together and decides to fight Williams again that you have no problem with the other Welters not fighting him?

 

Williams has the ability to be an excellent boxer, but the problem is that he doesn't want to box, he likes to fight.

 

That is silly. My point in saying that is from PW's pov, no other WW's can make excuses the about PW-Quintana saga with a second decisive victory, not to demand something ******ed. If Quintana won't fight he won't fight, why would I say that PW should just twiddle his thumbs until he changes his mind?

He rematched him and iced him cold in under a round... how more decisive can you get? If he'd beaten him by late KO or points then yeah, maybe. He destroyed him in 1 round however, which in the minds of most erradicates the need for a rubber match.

 

Not only does the icing him in 1 round remove the need for a rubbermatch, the fact that Carlos says he isn't looking to fight him again confirms that fact. Williams and Quintana is settled. Seems to me that if the people going on about unfinished business really cared about that they would be clamoring for Margarito to tie up his record with Williams by fighting him again.

Margo is 0 -1 against Williams, the reason he isn't trying to fight him is because he knows in his heart it'll be 0 -2 after the rematch.

 

i was at mohegan for the rematch, i can see why carlos doesnt want a 3rd fight. paul is the most feared man in boxing, haters say what you want that he should be at a higher weight but thats garbage if you make the weight you make the weight
