It's good to see him making a comeback but looking at a few of his old fights, I think it's a huge shame he didn't have more power. At his peak, he was a good boxer and with a solid shot, he would have been a much more difficult opponent. He was a good boxer but it was just too easy for his opponent to do whatever he wanted to. When there's no threat of being hurt or even stunned, you can lunge in, throw power shots, be risky and that must have been tough for Malignaggi to deal with, especially against guys like Cotto and Hatton. Apart from that, I think if he had power, he would go down as a true warrior. His fights were often too one-sided in either direction. I don't know if he would have been in great fights like Gatti, but he certainly showed he had the heart to do so. He doesn't have any quit in him, even when he's taken bad beatings or got hurt. I can't say I'm a huge fan of him in the ring, because I generally prefer brawlers to pure boxers, but I do respect him a lot. He reached the top despite having a huge handicap and that's something not a lot of world champions have done. Very few have done what he has and that says a lot about how good he is. Outside the ring, he is an excellent character and it's a shame he hasn't been a bigger star. Again, if he had some power, I think he would have been a lot bigger. I hope he can resurrect his career. It would be unusual but if he can go on and prove he still has something left, that would be great. I'm intrigued to see what he can do and I wish him the best.
yeah the injuries malignaggi sustained ruined his pro career. he broke his hands in the amateur and decided not to get it treated, it got worse and worse to a point it became a chronic condition, it was too late when he eventually decided to get it treated.
Couldn't disagree more. I admired his courage vs Cotto, but I think he was a mediocrity as a boxer (even with power he would still be too flawed and basic to be a top fighter), and his conduct outside of the ring is just pathetic. He continually accuses Manny Pacquiao of despicable cheating without a shred of evidence in order to keep his name in the media and remain relevant, all done of course with the assurance that he will never actually have to climb into the ring with the object of his abuse, because Malignaggi is nowhere near the quality required for a Pacquiao opponent. I think that type of cowardly allegations are the most pitiful and disgusting behaviour a boxer can exhibit, he is an absolute worm and it was a pure pleasure to see Khan ramming his ***** words down his throat with no more than a stiff jab.
thats not true, paulie was a very promising amateur from a young age, in his documentary he says he was a troubled child so his grandfather took him to the local boxing gym.
The world doesn't revolve around Pacquiao, his measure as a man doesn't consist of how he treats your idol in the media. Flawed and basic? No man, I don't see it if you do. I don't like that his hands are down, but his head movement is superb. His footwork is good and he uses the ring well. His jab is nice, and he pops double and triple jabs to set up his offense and enhance his defense. He uses pivoting and angles to deal with agressive fighters who come forward, and has a good arsenal of punches. The problem is: as Jack said, he doesn't have the power to keep his opponent honest, they can walk through him and impose their will, hence his gameplan breaks down when he's facing a top notch fighter. No one who can clown Juan Diaz the way he did is a basic fighter. Give me a break Popkins.
I'm not the biggest Paul Malignaggi fan, but I've always admired that he participated in a sport where he was lacking on the of the key ingredients and still managed to make a go of it. I read an analogy about Paulie that I thought was apt to the effect that he is like a man who goes bear hunting with a pen knife.
What can I say, I don't see it. I see a neat, tidy, decent boxer, but who is not outstanding in any regard whatsoever, and still wouldn't be even if he did have power. Amir Khan trashed him with one punch, the jab. Ricky Hatton dominated the **** out of him, he actually made Hatton look like ****ing Floyd Mayweather, the way Hatton kept catching him flush with single shots to the head!
yet you think calzaghe cant box :rofl:rofl:rofl go die my friend. khans pro debut [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsCxa1zGRGs[/ame] calzaghes pro debut [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEid1ZNNlXI[/ame] calzaghe is much more impressive khan gets floored lol
Can anyone explain to me how this imbecile took a comment about Paulie Malignaggi's career to be a comment about Joe Calzaghe??? :huh
