According to the site that talks about boxing....

Winky is teaming up with GBP to offer Pavlik the biggest purse of his career to fight Winky and as always, Winky is willing to go wherever-- right into Ohio. HBO loves the fight and will pay up for it.

Everyone was cool with Pavlik taking an "easy" fight but then he started talking about guys outside of the top 20 and I don't think HBO had any desire to see that. Pavlik has been showcased, for christ sakes he knocked out the undisputed middleweight champ and then rematched him and showed it wasn't a fluke. This is his prime, why waste it?

BTW I have no problem with experienced fighters having tune ups..but that is when someone is coming off inactivity or a loss...ie Oscar or Zab

Pavlik runs from nobody. He fought Taylor two times in a row. Why would he be afraid of Winky? He has to fight his mandatory.

Why does he have to fight a mandatory? Pavlik himself says he isn't staying around the division for more than a year or two...he's not going to fight all of the mandatories so he will eventually lose a belt or two but what does that matter? If they stripped Pavlik of all the belts he wouldn't lose 1 penny off of it.

Lets see... 1.5-2 million to fight Lockett (might be less even) or 5 million+ to fight Winky...

So Pavlik is running from a guy who doesn't have a single win over a legitimate 160lbs fighter?

I like people's logic sometimes.

Pavlik needs to fight Kessler, Hopkins, or Calsazghe, not Winky. Pavlik/Kessler would be great.

Pavlilk might fight a no name until he gets a fight with one of the big guys and that is probably what he is banking on. Winky carries a big purse but not too big a name outside of boxing circles and carries a big risk. No one likes to fight the turtle shell jabbing fighter unless they have to. Ask DLH. Or see what it did to Mosley's carreer to turn down (if I remember correctly) ten million to fight DLH and instead fight Winky for 2. Pavlik is a new guy moving up and his people are probably looking toward the winner of Calzaghe/Hopkins, taking a tune up as they wait.

Wink is about the worst fight that Pavlik could make in terms of style and risk vs reward. Its not a smart business move.

Do you have any idea how long Hoya himself avoided Wright?

Why would he want to fight Taylor again? Get undersold pay wise and flat out lose the second time instead of getting screwed via a shady draw?

The man proved for YEARS that he was willing to take any fight, at any place. I can't think of any recent fighters who did it more than Wright.

Winky should be trying to get a fight with Mayorga and build his ass back up. He needs to stop pretending he's at the same place he was pre-Hopkins. For a fighter who has an itsy bitsy fan base he sure is picky about who he fights.

espn has a whole article about how winky must think hes DLH by tryin to pick out his opponents like hes some sort of big draw an said he needs to gets some fights... i think he needs to build himself back up before he gets a shot at the undisputed MW champ... not in title but he did beat taylor twice
