Mayweather. At 130 and 135lbs he was a different level.

Never seen much of Arguello fight but I always heard he had problems with movement/boxers. If my info is correct then I can't imagine PBF being a good stylistic matchup for him.

Floyd's movement and jab offset Arguello's steady pressure and boxing skills.

Floyd is so oeverated when it comes to fantasy matchups! his best wins are castillo and a 38 year odl mosley. he needs to fight some prime elite dudes before we start saying he can beat the durans, arguellos or leanords of the past

Mayweathers resume at 130, is pretty impressive.

gotta disagree...the man is consistantly put in with not just ATG's but some have claims to be GOATS of respective weights.....i have yet to see where Floyd is even close to a consensus win....all fantasy matchups i see....he loses, gets dominated, KO'ed, TKO'ed...the man literally doesnt stand a chance in the fantasy matchups despite having a skill level on par with all of them.

You gotta favour Floyd but if tapped by Arguello like Mosely did round 2 I don't think he'd get through the round.

PBF would win but I must say Arguello is a genuine ATG fighter and man.

Mayweather dominated tall fighters....Corrales, Hernandez, and NDou....None of them posed the threat of Arguello's power but this was both fighter best weight class. I could see Mayweather being dropped by a straight right or uppercut on the inside, but even in his prime Arguello lacked the head movement to offset Mayweathers awkward potshots and counters. Arguello was a very classic boxer, and Mayweather would take his jab away and outfox him from the outside.

In a 12 round fight I'd give PBF a decent shot at winning a hard fought decision. In a 15 rounder Alexis would stop Floyd. I'm not saying Floyd would have had trouble with longer fights. He trains like a lunatic, and if he had been around in that era he would have been a fine 15 round fighter. The problem against Arguello is that he nearly always got better as the fight wore on, and this gives him 3 additional rounds to figure Floyd out and beat the brakes off him.

The idea that Arguello had trouble with slick boxers is an internet myth parroted by people who just don't know any better. He had trouble with Marcel when he was still pretty green, and it was that fight that convinced Alexis he needed more than power to win. He unexpectedly lost in an upset to Fernandez who he soundly trounced in the rematch. In 90 pro fights Alexis had trouble with exactly 2 slick boxers.

Over the course of 15 rounds Alexis would find a way to hook off the jab, and land the right hand, and then he'd close the show.
