Reading about him in this weeks Boxing News, apparently a books being published about him. Im a little ashamed to admit I'd never even heard of him. Former cockney bantamweight world champ who enjoyed a couple of wins over George Dixon. His reign as champ seems to have been ended in spectacular fashion by Terry McGovern who knocked him out in the first round. Came back to fight Jim Driscoll several years after retiring but was stopped early. Certainly not a knockout artist he ended up with a 45(5)-15-4 record, not too bad. Apparently he had a bit of a temper as well, he was charged with manslaughter. Anyone else have info on this guy?

ive read a fair bit on im. Real handful for anyone with lots of surprises in stores by setting traps and countering but like you say had a temper.

Was the first world champion to win a title by DQ aswell.

I`ve got a short clip of Palmer sparring vs Billy Plimmer, and let me tell you the style they employed back then was rather primitive, neither man wouldn`t stand a chance against more modern fighters employing the style they did.

I can imagine. Shouldnt take away from his achievments at the time though. Level playing field and all that.
