The old butterbean thread inspired this...but I am not going to try to put the hurrican head to head with Jack Dempsey. What I want to know is this...the Hurrican that fought Tyson...who is the smallest great fighter of today or in history who beats him. If you say, for example, floyd mayweather jr, then tell me at what weight. 156 floyd, 147? 140? Also we assume a somewhat lax ref as far as pushing and such goes...but not totally lax...this isn't mma here.
Too many unknown variables. We know that Fitz and Walker could handle heavyweights, but we don't know whether or not a 160 lb RJJ could deal with the raw strength and power of a heavyweight (even McNeeley). I suspect not: RJJ wouldn't have the power to keep McNeeley off and would get mauled on the inside.
I don't know...I distincly recal hearing that Roy often sparred and handled heavyweights...now sparring is one thing and fighting is another...but I'm sure at some point some heavies got pissed and went hard. Also in my own experience I remember in my gym a 139 pound pro being able to handle decent amature light heavys and green heavies and golden glove middle weights...all in the same day (three rounds each). I just think Roy at 160 (weighing in at 160, meaning he likely hits the ring at 170) handing McNeeley his ass.
Jones could weigh 160 pounds and he would still embarrass McNeeley. He was good enough to beat Ruiz while in his mid 30's and a bloated 190+ pounds. Ruiz was about a hundred times better than McNeeley.
A 210lb HW is tough for a smaller man and McNeeley's strength/power and yes chin would see him walk allot of smaller men down. I can see a few MWs beating him though. Below that a Ray Robinson, Walker, Leonard, Burley and HEarns might beat him I'm not sure on that McNeeley isn't quite as bad as you all think though
Yes he is. He had a vulnerable chin and no skill or stamina whatsoever. In a barfight his tactics may have worked. His management had great difficulty coming up with 36 men he could beat prior to the Tyson fight and they picked the worst of the worst, and probably paid off a few.
