:huh Give you my opinion after i Hear yours I am sure most of you guys got IKE in this one. At 135! Some of you guys might be crazy enought to say he beat him at 147
I think Mosleys fast hands and feet see him land first as Williams more plodding feet see him get outboxed. All the same Mosley would exchange with Williams and it would be a war. Mosleys size/strength/Speed give him big advantages in the exchanges. Williams had great power and finnishing ability but Shane has the ATG chin and I cant see anyone stopping him at LW. Mosley UD
Mosley lacks the opposition to think he would do well against Williams. He looked great against mediocre oppoenents. Williams was great. However I think Mosley wouldn't be KOed. Williams clear decision.
I see Mosley going down at say, 140 between his final fight at 135 and his move to Welter. He'll survive, he's super tough, but if Willis can drop a chin as good as Gavilans, then with Mosleys aggressive style he'll be walking into some fire. Williams by decision
If competition affected results so much a challenger would never dethrone a proven champion. Ali wouldnt beat Liston, Patterson wouldnt beat Moore, Hatton wouldnt beat Tyszu etc etc etc
This is a fantasy fight we have to go by what we know. We know Mosley never fought anybody at lw close to Williams - actually he never fought anybody in the class of Williams up to now. So, we don't know how he would do against Ike. But we know how Ike would do against someone of Mosley's calibre. Add in Mosley's leaky defence and risky style and Ike's offensive capabilities and power and you have your result.
I think Williams' firepower is the overall difference here. Shane will land his share of blows with his speedy hands. However, Ike will systematically dissect him for a UD, or maybe a late stoppage.
At 135 I'd favor Ike by stoppage late. At 147 it gets more interesting, and is in fact pretty much a 50/50 kind of fight, IMO. Would provide some great exchanges, for sure.
A great matchup between Ike Williams [who i saw ko Beau Jack in Philly in 1948],and shane mosely, a great lightweight.Ike Williams uncuffed was the best lightweight i have ever seen.He was a smaller Ray Robinson minus themobility of Ray.Williams fought much better opponents, such as the great Beau Jack, Bob Mpntgomery, Sammy Angott, Kid Gavilan, etc.than Shane Mosely .Top lightweights in the 40's ,usually had over 100 bouts, and fought the BEST contenders many times a year, or faced suspension. They were tough and well seasoned then..He would have overcome Shane Moseley's speed and worn him down in a 15 round bout, as he did when he ko,d Beau Jack, easily Shane Mosely,s equal.Beau Jack was a strong whirlwind dirvish in his prime...Yes Williams stops Mosely in the 12th round of a competative fight...
quartey by ko haha jk, i see this as a good tough fight but i think mosley could take the upset in this one and win a decision
They both have fast hands, but Williams was a better technician IMO and showed more strength at the weight. I'd take Ike by decision.
Difficult one to boil down for me. I dont have a problem with people saying Shane edges him in a one off fight in his era over 12 rounds. But Im fairly certain over several fights, over the longer distance in Ike's era that Williams would prove himself to be the superior fighter. He is the better technician, and I think has the more consistent workrate. Shane is pretty workman like in his approach but also tends to fight in spurts..which I dont think will deter Ike in the long run. I know he was sick against Holiday but I also think he had some difficulty with a bloke that was as conditioned as he was and wouldnt wilt. Id favour Mosley to outpoint him at 147...maybe even stop him. Wouldnt dominate from bell to bell but I think he is the better welterweight.
