Povetkin is comfortably better. Not really close. Especially now, when Ortiz was in his 40s it might’ve been closer.

lol I was being a bit naughty there as that was Alexander Povernov, not Alexander Povetkin. But to be fair to me, Povetkin was a much better amateur than Povernov. Povernov won bronze at the world amateur championships and Europeans, whereas Povetkin won Olympic gold, gold at the world amateur championships, and gold x 2 at the Europeans.

i saw the spelling but as the fight sounded like it was taking place in korea/japan i thought maybe it was just the spellingand that it was povetkin
    had me fooled.

what is uncanny then is povernov has povetkins style and build off to a tee
    like they were cloned.

the fight also showed ortiz limitations and why he was always cuba number 3 and never higher

Who knows what happens in the depths of Siberia? Maybe they're pulling another Olympic boxing heavyweight out of the germination pod right now?

I like this fight. I’d have to go with Povetkin though.

It also makes the division more interesting, as it opens up questions at the top; of Ortiz wins, people would likely be interested in Joshua vs Ortiz more, and if Povetkin wins, and in a more convincing fashion than Wilder, people would want to see that fight.

It would be good for the division.

Ortiz dropped there by a CW.....

He has a poor chin and is made for Wilder's right hand, like i've always said.

Dave Allen swung one of the slower right hands i've seen and it wobbled Ortiz.

Ortiz isn't even a Top 5 HW.....He's only rated by Americans because their HW standard is so low.

European level > North American level these days.

Gun to my head if I had to choose, I guess I'd say yeah Povetkin might be slightly better. But they are probably closer to equal.

    lol true

yeah but underneath the headguard Povernov's as bald as a coot. I wonder what Povetkin would look like bald lol

Yeah, Ortiz did have a great fight with the excellent albeit now sadly deceased Ukrainian born but Russian citizen and member of the Russian national squad Roman Romanchuk, though. This is one of the highest scoring amateur bouts I've ever seen, if not the highest scoring one, and it's at HW.

Povetkin beats Ortiz, it was a good name for Joshua.
