he seems less a pressure fighter and looked to counter more. I think he'll get picked apart by Wlads jab easier now.
Less belly, more muscles, less infight, less amateur style. In my book Povetkin has improved (but Nolen looked utter crap). Still both Klitschkos would kill him with jabs. Povetkin vs. Haye would be a nice fight.
atlas made no different to povetkin style that i could see. povetkin carried nolan for 3 rounds. as soon as he went to work fight was over and nolan was not a good enough test. the fight could have been over in the first if povetkin came out fired up and went for it. this was just a passing time/keep busy fight who povetkin new was no danger to him whatsoever and fought accordingly i thought while watching. with povetkins style, it will be atlas experience and advice with little tiny things when things are not going to plan that will be beneficial, rather than anything we will see straight away. povetkins biggest fights are obviouly the klitchko`s and the only way povetkin can win , is to take it to them, set a high tempo and get close, because no matter what he is taught , povetkin will not be able to outbox them from range. atlas will concentrate on povetkin`s head movement to get in close to let his hands go.
Fitter, faster, more effective that said we cannot say anything about his D or chin his last 2 fights have been stiffs and did not test him one bit. Nolan threw nothing his way. Povetkin still seems to slow for Wlad and looks like he can be kept at the edge of his jab. Not enough movement of any kind and does not look explosive enough to get inside. Also Chambers cut him in 2 rounds with rights and whose right is harder Povetkin's face is gonna look like raw meat
I thought he looked very sharp and threw beautiful uppercuts. Nolan wasn't all-that, but at least he seemed ready to go and on his toes, unlike his last few bouts where he was just going through the motions. I don't think he's ever going to be more ready for Klitschko.
Can't tell much as he fought a very weak opponent who didn't try anything. He looked better physically and as very sharp. Same style in rest.
Heh I just noticed that, Povetkin will need another tune-up, most likely it will be against Samuel Peter.
It's hard to really get anything from this fight, Nolan sucks. He needs to get thrown in there with another top level heavy before going after the Klitschkos, maybe Arreola. Honestly, no matter what Teddy teaches him, he just doesn't have the physical assets to beat a klitschko. He's not very big, and he doesn't really have that big KO power, so he probably won't be able to get inside, and even if he does, he won't be able to hurt either of them too much.
Of course, all that being said, I still think he's a good fighter, and a fight with Haye would probably be entertaining and he'd even have a good chance of winning that.
The biggest difference is his shape. He lost about 4kg fat, getting muscles instead. I'm very positive about his performance, but i think he could use his jab more often. There were some distance problems in the first round, where he tried to land some hooks, sadly, while he was in the wrong distance. None the less, his actions looked more precise, more focussed and atleast more effective - though Nolan is no real test.
Nolan is not a legit test. Pick up Boswell next time and we will know better. Povetkin does not speak english, that's a big roadblock in his relationship with Atlas. They should try to get a fight on the undercard of Wlad vs Chambers, that would be a good way to build up their next fight.
The guy put no pressure on him, its hard to read much from this. If (and its a big if) he could get inside Wladimir he could cause problems with his handspeed, but I can't see that happening realistically. I think Tony Thompson would make a very good next opponent for him. He looked good last night and will really test him. I rate Povetkin in my top 4 current heavyweights, but I wouldn't put money on him beating Thompson
