PPV worthy

I don't think the PPV card is bad. Bellew-Chilemba is still interesting although not for the bloodthirsty. Groves is on but we all know its all about the main event. Eddie might put on another good fight as the CL final is all German and now less interesting.

 

Some PPVs are just insulting, like the McDonnell card, but I generally don't care about what is PPV and what isn't. If people don't think a card is worthy of PPV, that's fine, nobody is forcing them to pay for it. You aren't being sold something which then changes, you know what the headline and chief support fights will be, so if people don't think it's worth paying for it, that's their choice. I don't understand why people get so annoyed by some fights being on PPV. If they don't think it's worth the money, don't pay for it, it's their choice. They aren't being forced into paying an additional £18 or whatever to see the fight.

For what it's worth, I have no issue with the Froch/Kessler card. The Groves fight should be fairly simple for him but he's an entertaining fighter and his opponent has power, so it might end up being a good fight. Ochieng/Kaddour is a good test too and I think it'll be a lot closer than people are expecting it to be. That isn't a formality at all, I don't think. Bellew/Chilemba will be an interesting fight and both guys will employ different tactics, so it's unlikely to be as poor as the first fight was, and Froch/Kessler will be terrific. When you add in a bunch of undercard fights on top of that, I really don't think it's as bad as people have made out.

Whether it's worth the PPV price or not, that's up to each fan. I think it is, so I'll be paying.

Watch it in the pub and spend the 15 quid on beers. Easy.

 

It's the reasoning for different shows going to ppv that is becoming more blurred. For example, Hearn has Sky Sports in his back pocket so has an establshed broadcaster to start off with. He is then deciding to go to ppv on top of that.

But then there are promoters like Hobson who don't have a pot to **** in tv-wise and are scrambling around and ending up going to ppv as a last resort. Hobson is no mug in a business sense and he knows the McDonnell fight is not really a ppv show. It just shows the lack of crumbs that are available these days from the established broadcasting table.

 

Hearn HAD to put in on PPV or we wouldn't be seeing this fight, at least on these shores anyway.

Why would you spend money you can't afford on an under card when the CL final is on. It just doesn't make sense.

Don't like it, go to the pub and watch it.

 

Like I said Jack, It's too risky for Edward to be putting on a huge undercard. Kessler & Froch are getting paid **** loads.

 

For me, it's the best fight in all of boxing right now.

So saying it's not PPV worthy is the same as saying Boxing as a sport isn't PPV worthy.

 

Sell your tickets watch it pub. Plenty of others want to go mate. They tried to make Ryder v Saunders for thbe show.

 

One of my biggest problems with this PPV is that there is so little boxing on sky sports now, that I think they and Eddie are taking the **** out of boxing fans by expecting them to cough up more to watch it, for a supposed marginalized sport, they certainly know how to bleed fans dry.

 

True. I'm hoping Hearn gets more Sky dates now that he's signed half the fighters in Britain, Eddie is looking to get 30 dates, which will be much better.

 

Unlike most on here, I actually support PPV boxing. I think it can be good for the sport if its done properly. I want to see big fights in the UK like Burns v Broner and I think that's possible if you have a PPV model that the sports fan has faith in.

The issue with Froch v Kessler is theres so much pressure on that fight to be a success. It's a quality fight in paper. But what happens if Kessler gets cut in the 2nd round and the fight ends up a NC. You will have 18,000 in the Arena and 250,000 PPV buyers pissed of at home.

The Main Events need to be backed up by great under cards. George Groves is a big name fighter in the UK because he was chief support to Haye vs Ruiz & Haye v Harrison in good fights. You had a ton of people pissed off with Haye v Harrison but all of them watched Groves v Anderson and they loved it. 7 months later Groves headlined his own PPV with DeGale.

You also need the right setup behind it. Tysuzu, Castillo, Mayweather & Pacquiao were the biggest PPV success for Hatton. The reason for that was because the sports fan new who the opponent was. Most of the big fights those opponents has were showcased on UK TV. How can Sky expect to build a PPV fight like "Burns v Broner" if nobody has seen Broner fight?
