I did only see some highlights from Price the other day. Seems like a real prospect. Seems to have very heavy hands. In shape. Has a repertoire of punches. Now he is fighting Thompson next. This guy is 36-3. Two of his losses to W. Klitschko. Should be a real test for Price. He wins this one then he should be able to go all the way.
Thompson is 41 and I believe his heart is not there anymore. He knows he can't compete against Klitschkos so this is the biggest payday he can get.. And that's the reason why he steps to the ring with Price. ''It's all about the money'' Price destroys totally unmotivated Thompson. Price moves forward with a solid win and Thompson gets a nice payday.
Price should beat Thompson the only worry I have about price is I don't think his chin has been tested yet
While Thomson is clearly done this is definitely a step up in level for Price. How he performs against Thompson and how his power effects a higher level of opponent will give us an insight to how far Price has really progressed. I'm not 100% sold on price yet. He seems to have superb power and his repertoire of punches is impressive. But his jab is weak for such a big man, and he has shown nothing to suggest his defence is sufficient to beat anyone with any real offensive ability. At the moment he reminds me of a young Wlad, great when on top and dominating an opponent but what will happen when he actually get's in a real fight?
The Price camp saw Thompson's last fight were he barley threw a punch and looked like complete dog**** and said - thats our man, we'll have him next.
My thoughts on this fight are here. Is David Price Stepping Up? http://murmuringsofaboxingmad-man.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/is-david-price-stepping-up.html Big fight for Price.
I'm really looking forward to this one, having had a close eye on Price and having followed Thompson as well, always feeling he was an underrated guy throughout the brunt of his career. I have no doubt that age-regardless Price is definitely stepping up. I have no doubt that Price's power is for real at the world level. I have no doubt that Thompson being broken by Klitschko twice, mentally and physically, has probably got him close to retirement. But, I also have no doubt that it's still an interesting test for Price and a respectable step up, even assuming that. This should be good experience. I'll take Price by 6-8, but I think getting a guy who doesn't threaten to derail him too early who could last even six rounds with Thompson's experience would still do Price very well. If it turns into another 1-3 round blowout, it will be a double-edged sword, there, for him. He'll have his rep as the next big thing and an enormous banger increased quite a bit, but he'll also have yet another fight where he doesn't experience a significantly helpful amount of pro rounds. I'd hope for both their sakes that Thompson gives a good account of himself and backs up that it was really only at the very top he couldn't be successful and Price gets taken at least mid-rounds to box a bit before finding the finish, performing well, getting enough resistance to show he can get through it at this next level.
This. It's unlikely that Thompson will even try to make it a fight. He'll probably just protect himself for 12 boring rounds, while a frustrated Price hammers away. Still Price has a LOT of power, and like to throw combinations on the inside, so maybe he'll get a solid KO. The fight itself will be meaningless, but a KO nonetheless. - And since Thompson is still (just barely) a "name" opponent, a KO win should help Price get a better opponent for his next fight.
since 2007 Thompson has only lost 2 times... Both to wlad. While i think Price will win, Thompson being a southpaw is very awkward and has a ton of ring time and experience. IF price underestimates Thompson, he could be in for a shock on the losing end of a UD I agree with many posts. Thompson may not have the heart or fire anymore, but if Thompson gets some confidence during the fight, it might just carry him to a win I think its more about Price than it is Thompson. If price is focused and doesnt underestimate Thompson and is patient.... he will get the KO
Price will KO Thompson in two rounds and blow him away. None of that jab and grab **** Wlad does. This fight will show that Price is a lot better than Wlad.
