They needed to marinate it, bro! I mean, Gamboa might have done well at 135 had he actually eased his way into the division. But no, he had 1 fight, took a year off and ended up facing one of the greatest talents of that time. They did the right thing and had Gamboa fight 4 times in 2017. And they did this despite Gamboa being upset by Castellanos. But by then Gamboa was in his mid 30s and the ship on his world class career had sailed. Fights with Davis, Haney and Cruz were just sad. The Roman Martinez KO was spectacular but Martinez was basically retired at that point. It was smoke and mirrors, Gamboa was done as an elite talent.
Gamboa was a special talent, even if a little reckless. I recall many back in the day on this board being very high on him.
New video highlight from @haNZAgod made me want to come back to this. God do I miss seeing Gamboa while he was in his prime. Such a fun yet reckless style. Sucks how his career ended. It hurts seeing him as a gatekeeper fighter now. This content is protected
