Fans notice Carnera sparring without headgear...Why ,you might ask...Wellwith head gear in training,fighters usually take blows on the head needlessly as tthey are protected by their headgear...They in sparring don't learn how to slip and slide,and pull away from punches,that the oldtimers, not wearing head protection, learned by rote...Training and sparring habits done day after day,determine what boxers ultimately bring into the ring...Is this one of the main reasons the oldtimers were able to have on average twice and more bouts, as todays more pampered and less trained fighters? ...Methinks so....
Primo was not all that bad, remember he was next to Willard as the best big man to live up until, Bowe, Lewis and the Klitschko's
i'm hard on carnera, perhaps unfairly at times, but i've only seen one halfway decent performance and that was in getting dominated by baer. every other fight he's either looked terrible and/or had the win bought for him. i've never seen a defining fight where he looked spectacular. nice man by all accounts but **** of a champion
