Anyone remember Primo? Almost killed Frankie Randall. Seemed to have a hell of a chin too. Anyone have any memories of Ramos?
I remember he "shocked the world" with his upset of Randall. Strong, burly fighter with a big punch in either hand. I remember he had a couple of fights with Meldrick Taylor. Had he managed to win either one it would've opened the way for big things for him, but Taylor was just too fast and classy for him as I recall. Don't remember what became of him after that.
I remember him winning the Chicago Golden Gloves. The buzz was that he was a dead ringer for Roberto Duran facially (he really was) and that there was a lot of suspicion that he had a few pro fights down in Mexico. He won the Nationals that year also. He reminded me alot of Lobito Montoya. Great jaw, could be outboxed, did not have one punch KO power - more of a wear 'em down style - but could spring that upset if you weren't on your toes. Scartissue
