I'm sure a couple of readers here remember the heavyweight matchup between 1971 vs. 1981.

The editors ther seemed to have doubts over Dokes' ability to deliver, at one time calling him feather fisted.

Would a Dokes-Quarry fight go the way they predicted with Quarry coming on late over a tiring Dokes? I know Micheal wasn't the most consistent performer but I see Mike stopping Jerry in eight with lefts and rights dead on the button and nearly too fast for the human eye to follow.

I think it depended on which of these men showed up. Both had the tendency to party and snort blow. If they both trained their butts off, and took each other seriously, either could have beaten the other.

I've seen Jerry a few times in key matchups and every time he had his head handed to him. Even Ali knocked him silly in the rematch and tko'd him in his first comeback.

I dont see Dokes having that kind of power. Dokes's only chance is cutting Quarry.
Quarry gives him a boxing leason after about 5-6 rounds and wins the UD

How can you compare Ali with Dokes?

I wasn't comparing him with Ali. I don't think you have to. Dokes seemed to lose to the more athletic fighters like Patterson and Ali or top level fighters like Norton and Frazier.

you kidding? Dokes, who was a good fighter, got a gift knockout stoppage against Weaver, and a gift decision. Plus lets not talk about Gerrie Coetzee.

Quarry beat some great fighters like Shavers, Patterson and Lyle.

I can se why you made this thread....great matchup when you think about it.

    I see Quarry taking this.

Dokes had prime hand speed, but his boxing ability wasn't top notch. I could see Quarry weathering some early round thunder to come on late and decision him over 12 or 15.
